I have been searching on line for grips for a second generation Detective Special.  I find that even with the Tyler grip adapter that the I still need something a bit larger.  Most of the after market grips are for the later Colt production and may not fit the older grip.  I would like to try something a bit larger to see if it will improve control when firing double action.

I used Herrett's "Gunfighter" grips on my Agent for many years and was very happy. Try to find a used set, as new ones are more than the cost of a nice Detective Special.

I have looked at the Eagle grips but their site indicates that they only do grips for post 1966.  Mine are a 1957  and a 1964.  Make have to look at used set.

IIRC, those were the full length but deeper used on the late version of the Police Positive Special? Sorry, I don't have a good option for you. Pre-D frames are pretty much a custom build now. It has been 53 years since the last one was made.  Sorry, Ric

Keith,

Trace the outline and send it to me. I have several hundred brand new grips and most are not identified. Some of which I know what they fit, but many I do not. I can see what I can do.

I made an attempt to send a reply through the individual messaging and its seem I am not technically up to the task.  I would take you up on the offer to send a tracing to you and see if something will work.  Just let me know how and where to send it.  I suspected that Rick’s comment on the size of the older frame was likely.  The only other choice would be to dip into my supply of Mesquite from the home farm.

Thanks to all Keith
