I got lucky again this season. Cast bullet buck about 75 yards. El Cheap O built rifle. Now chambered for the mightly 7.62x39. Lyman 311041 cast 50/50 w/wts.& lead. Complete pass through and expired about 15 yards further.

Shootcast - great result from the cast. What velocity? Size of exit hole?
Given the pass through, you might benefit further from a small hollow in the bullet nose as applied with the Forster tool, though if the solids are working you might prefer not to have lead pieces in the meat.
You are only as good as your library.

I was hesitant to list powder charge but I feel it’s safe and anyone wishing to use it does so at own risk. No signs of pressure and probably still a bit under max. IMR 3031@ 23.5 grs. If I remember correctly from this rifle about 1850 fps. Nothing against HP but see no need. Have taken many deer with this bullet. The soft alloy shoots plenty accurate enough for cast bullet ranges. It gives penetration and expansion. The chest cavity filled with blood. I’m strictly a hobbyist but built this rifle myself. A friend years ago gave me the Mauser military small ring action. It’s still a cock on closing. I drilled and taped the action . Cut old bolt handle off and made a new one. I saved the original ball end of military bolt handle. Drilled and taped it for new handle. I bought the barrel used from match buddy. Not sure who originally made it. Cut the old chamber off and turned, threaded and chambered it to 7.62x39. I followed the original military measurement at chamber. At first step past chamber continued to muzzle straight. This barrel is of .308 and a1-15 twist was stamped on barrel before I started. Wasn’t sure if I could do the work or if it would shoot. I think it just might shoot better than the 39’s I chambered for heavy class rifle. I’m really struggling with them. LOL
The scope is a Simmons(3x9) 8 point as in cheap. I have under $100 as pictured.

Seen a few but nothing so far that I wanted to shoot.

I can’t eat the horns. Can’t be picky or won’t fill a tag. This was the first deer after several days of hunting. Homemade everything, including the gas checks.😀

The question re exit wound - was it .30 cal or larger? Am interested in evidence of bullet behaviour. Is the image entry or exit side?
Bullet placement definitely looks pretty good.

That would be entry side. I didn’t bother to measure expansion. I’m guessing it would easily be half again original diameter. Basically as good as as say Remington Core Lock in a 30-30.
