It is appearing to me that the smaller the caliber/cartridge one casts and loads, the more difficult or picky the loading becomes. Is this true? And if this is the case, is the 22 Hornet or Remington difficult to "get right"? Thanks!

Its true to some extent.  I case for the hornet and .223 You might find it takes a little more work to get them to shoot.  But thats the fun in all this.

They shoot fine.  Love the Hornet.

When I first started shooting cast every caliber was difficult. Discovered bullet fit being most important. Usually for 22 caliber a quick powder like TiteGroup and soft alloy (10 bhn) shoots pretty good.

I don't see any difference. I like what OU812 said. Some of the more difficult things to overcome are a very fast twist, exceptionally large throat, and a really really bad bore/groove.

I do shoot a bit of cast bullets through small bore rifles.  I shoot cast in my 22 Hornets [Contender, Savage M40 and Ruger #3], through my 223 s [Contender and M70] and through my 2530 Savage M23.  I don't find them any more difficult than loading for any other rifle cartridge.  I don't load cast in gas guns as the performance just isn't there for me.

Well....the older and fatter your fingers get.....makes it hard to get those tiny 22 caliber bullets set straight on the case mouth. smile

With rifle in hand, I confidently go forth into the darkness.

here is a .14 caliber mold for a .14 /22LR Alton Jones made up. It's companion is a 32 caliber to help keep up mold temp.

The guys that voted for Harris Walz use the same tweezers that they use to take a leak.

my messages is broken I can't open them. I've reached out several times to mods with no resolution.

I’ve worked with my K Hornet for about 35 years and it’s a ton of fun. Like M&M’s, you just keep coming back for more. Subsonic with a suppressor it makes as much noise as dropping a pencil.

The biggest issue I have is getting the base filled out with iron molds. You really have to rock & roll & cast a large generous sprue to keep the mold temp up. But my sample size is small, just three iron molds.

Off hand I can’t recall having those issues with the MP brass and the NOE aluminum.22 cal molds. I do remember the MP 37 grain falling out like little pearls and the close tolerance on the 60 grain 3 cavity mold from NOE. Ton of fun at little to no cost. Bill.
