Orientation of bullet or case or both
Some contend that “orienting”, the placing of bullet or case or both in the constant 0 degree position, improves accuracy. I have tested this theory any number of times, without ever finding any effect. Some contend that orienting in certain positions affects bullet position, i.e. 90-degree orientation yields 90-degree bullet strike.

IMHO, this is a "work around" for a mechanical problem. As in the bullet is not square with the base, bullet bent during sizing or bullet from a crooked cavity in the mould. Poor brass that has one side of the neck much thicker than another. Poor press or dies that are not square with the shell holder. Rifle with uneven locking lugs than makes fired brass crooked. Chamber is not in line with the bore. Sometimes by putting all your errors in the same orientation, you can shoot smaller groups.
If you can present the bullet aligned with the bore, and it fits the throat and center of mass and center of form are consistent, orienting doesn't make any difference. But if you are trying to make a POS shoot, this is a technique you can try.

I agree with Ric, but it might be interesting to grind one locking lug off the bolt, and shoot groups with components oriented in opposite directions to see what effect that it has...

Frank Marshall published work he had done on orientation. He used a heavy bbl. Win 70 in 30.06. He had compilation of targets shot with the bullet oriented by a mark on the nose section, and random bullet placement. His targets in the article showed that orientation did make a difference in his rifle.

A while back, somebody(can't remember who) did some pretty awful bullet mangling. Basically had little effect except base damage. I tried case orientation using just one case while breach seating my 32-40. Had no effect on my mediocre shooting.
