A more interesting Forum

Often when I see an interesting post I wonder if it's by someone I know, or if not what their profile looks like. What part of the country are they from, how old are they, what are their interests in shooting.  If their email address is there, it is possible to sent them an emailed message knowing that many people never check their PM mailbox. It would just be more interesting sometimes to have an idea of who is writing that post.

Most profiles won't tell you any of these things and some informations is wrong. For instance when I recently went to update my profile I found that I was 83.  Although that would be nice it would require a time machine to achieve.

If you are reluctant to fill out the minimum personal details the profile asks for because of privacy concerns, it seem to me you could relax. That ship has sailed a long time ago. Google already know whether you are wearing boxers or briefs and other things you probable don't know about yourself.

Many CBA members are listed as a standard member. Please give yourself credit for being a financial support of this forum by updating your profile.

It only takes a minute. Go to "My Tools" in the upper right and click on Edit profile in the dropdown menu.

Thanks,

John

Google, Microsoft, DuckDuckGo, Firefox the FBI, the CIA, and all the other alphabet soup agencies, know everything they need to know. Your digital fingerprint has been logged by software you didn't even know existed. If you are on the list, you are on the list. Period. If you have ever spoken about shooting, written about shooting, or thought about shooting, you are on the list. So, I am not doing ANYTHING illegal or immoral with my hobby. IF "they" don't like it, to heck with them. If they are coming for me, there is NOTHING I can do about it.

It is nice to know some basic information about our user community. What state or country you sleep in would be nice if I was looking to ask something geographic in nature. Of course I'm not putting in my mailing address, but knowing I live in NC may be useful to other less fortunate users who live in one of those more northern states. innocent

The basic user information is useful. It established context. I can determine if you are an old coot, or a whippersnapper.

With rifle in hand, I confidently go forth into the darkness.

I value privacy, but have come to grips with the reality that there is no real privacy in the digital world.  Discretion and circumspection are still important, maybe even more so.  Profile updated.

I selected yes for CBA member when I set up my profile, yes is still selected, yet I am a standard member. I believe the admin may have to change standard member to CBA member. I'm pretty sure age you have to update yourself, even if your birthdate is entered. My age did not update on my birthday, I have since removed my birthday from my profile.

John, you are correct about it being interesting to see where our fellow lead melters are from. With members all over the globe, the Forum never sleeps!

Entering my birthday by tapping that little back button to cover the passage of 76 years about wore out my trigger finger. If there is an easier way it was not apparent to me, but then, it can be said that I am digitally inept. Updated anyway.

When I joined, I filled out all of the information spaces. I don't care about my personal info. being available, I found out years ago that the government, and every organization out there already knows this. Who knows, you might make it to the FBI's watch list, if you already aren't there as of now. I agree, that if more information was available, it would be of interest to see where the member is located, their age, interests and etc.

All of my info is available, except my age. The age that I was when I joined is there and if I weren't computer challenged, I would update it, so if you want to know my current age, just do a little simple math, which isn't taught in schools very successfully now a days. I will be 79 in October. I'm trying to catch John, but he keeps getting older also.

Thank you John, for this post,

Hello Ricin,

If my shaky hands, would allow me to type the amount to tell my story, I would tell what I found out about myself. I wonder, how many people, have an idea of what information is stored about them, I'm sure that you do.

Yes they would be amazed. Not only every public document about you, like when you were stopped for a traffic offence but not ticketed, or you were ever late on a mortgage payment. Since the mid 1990's and the internet, they can find every key stroke ever made on your computer or phone. Plus within three feet of where your phone has been where ever you had cell service.
