Strange Gun Shop Rule

If you live around the Chicago area you've probably heard of Megasports. It's a fairly large gun shop and although the prices aren't great they have a lot of stuff. Anyway I went there last weekend with a lady friend of mine and found it odd that there were a lot of women sitting in cars or standing around the front door. Once I tried to go in I found out why. A young kid, just doing his job, was asking to see FOID cards. I pulled mine out and showed it to him and then he asked to see my friends. I told him she didn't have one and I was just going to look to see if they had some Triple 7. He said she couldn't come in unless she had one. That was it and I left and went to Bass Pro Shop. I know gun shops are nuts nowadays but that seemed a little extreme to me and I don't know if I'll ever go there again. It wasn't like people were tripping over each other and allowing a man's wife or friend to walk around the store with him seems like good business practice. I don't know what the hell's going on in this country anymore.

You have to fill out a form and send that and a picture, along with 10 dollar processing fee of course, to the State Police and they issue you a card that looks a bit like a drivers license. You need it to buy guns, ammo, powder, and primers. The cards good for 10 years. It sounds like a pain but I've had to have one for so long I don't even pay attention.

I am against FOID. Another step on the road to registration.

Move to Texas.

72Coupe,

When Texas finally secedes, is it true they will grant resident visas to honorably discharged veterans of any branch of US armed forces, retired LEOs or non-veterans with concealed carry permit issued by any state?

I can't speak for the state but I think everyone is welcome as long as they don't want to change us into California or New York.

I've had a FOID card for 45 years since the law started here in Illinois. The law does great to oppress law-abiding citizens of Illinois, since me and all my hunting and shooting buddies have never committed any gun crimes. :D

Gee, guess the law doesn't work on criminals?

Oh, now gun stores are using the law to oppress non-card holding wives and children.......

Sweet Jesus guys, you need to sort this quick.

In good old Aus any one can enter a gun shop and buy pretty much anything except guns, primers and powder without any kind of licence or ID at all.

Consider coming on down under to Aus if this nonsense goes on.

Forget about Texas, A) these laws are catching B) all states except Tasmania and Victoria are bigger...

cheers

Ed,

Frankly, with the number of folks we have coming to Texas from the various dying People's Republics in the US, it is time we started securing all of our state's borders and only allowing the folks that you listed to even cross over any state line. Retired LEOs should need a background check. Some, and only some, of them are part of the national problem.

The dhimmicrats are thinking they have had enough immigrants from the dying People's Republics come to Texas that they are planning a big push to change the political complexion--no racial intent in that statement--of the Lone Star State so they can set about destroying our economy, etc., too.

Folks are welcome to bring their kids, their cars, and their guns, but they need to leave their political, social, and economic pathologies back where they came from.

Forgot to add: they are welcome to bring their big RV's and huge pick-ups, too.

Good shooting! RT

When I worked at Gander Mt. our customers from Il. had to show there F.O.I.D. card for firearm purchases but not ammo or components. When we went to visit Ma in Corpus Christi Tx. back in the day they had drive through liquor stores and it was legal to drink in the car as long as you weren't behind the wheel. The first drunk driving ticket was 30.00 and the first murder usually got off with probation. Simple possession could get you life. They also did something called “driving friendly". This arrangement allowed us to share our lane with another car on the highway without passing. Texans are the only citizens of the USA who are allowed to fly there flag at the same level as the US flag because they once were an independent nation. I have nothing against the place, fabulous people and the big hills area is gorgeous. I do think that they had it right before they joined the union. My Great Grandfathers brother was the Sates Attorney until he died of a ruptured appendix in 1916. His father was a Confederate veteran from no. Carolina who was in Pickets Charge. Great Great Grandad voted Republican in every election because “Those Democrats got him in that Gd D**ed War!". That was fun! I'm the only Yankee around who says taters and britches!
