A new gun dealer moved into town. They're name is Hendershots. They came down from Hancock, MD. They do have a good reputation and are regarded as a "High End” dealer. Oh yes, they have many high end firearms. It's nice just to look at all that stuff but I just went in to get a pound of Unique . . . $29.99!!!!!! What!! The price on 1000 lge. rifle primers was $54.00!!! I told them. Hagerstown, MD is a blue collar town & with prices like that you guys are not going to survive here! Natchez here I come!

Hendershots used to be in Hancock, MD and they moved to Hagerstown trying to get a more monied clientele. They have always been pricey.

I never bought much there, but used to enjoy going there once a month to look at the eye candy, then going across the street to Weaver's restaurant for lunch with friends there.

We still meet at Weaver's, but not Hendershots.

Got online with Natchez. Ordered 1000 lge. rifle primers, 2 lbs. Unique, 1 lb. H4831SC & 1 lb. 5744. Total came to about $139.00. That includes Hazmat fee & shipping. That would have cost me over $180.00 locally.

I got my gunsmith buddies CZ550 in 505 Gibbs from Hendershots !

Think i got it from them for a good deal below dealer as well as I can remmember .

One of those deals where they sold it to some older gentleman to take to the dark continent and before he could go medical or age reasons stopped him and he supposedly never fired the gun . And of course they were helping him out trying to sell it for him !

With all that said I got the gun from them for about $200 less then we could have gotten one from our distributers AND without the wait !

Gun was still 2 G's !!!!!

We just put in an order to Parks and Son in Advance NC for a bunch of loading stuff !

I got one customer 2 8 pounders of Unique . Can't remmember what dealer cost was for an 8 pounder . But all he'll pay over our cost is $10 for his part of the shipping and maybe a $10-15 mark up tax included .

Gun was still 2 G's !!!!! Don't get me wrong, Hendershots have nice, reputable people and high end services along with a lot of eye candy (as Ed Harris put it) in their store. But hey, when 1000 lge. rifle primers are $54.00 & a $16.00 pound of Unique is $29.99! I have aproblem with that. yes, they have overhead but they could at least be somewhat reasonable. I expected Unique to be higher locally . . . but not double! If it had of been $25.00 I'd have paid it, but not $29.99. Eveything in their store is more than any other gunshop around.

If you want a local gun store, you have to buy from them.

If a local gun store wants customers, they have to be fair.

I have one local gun shop as such. I visit them only 2 or 3 times a summer, but I really don't need much but always buy a brick of 22lrs or a brick of primers.

Another gun shop 100 miles the other direction (I'm in between) always has the best prices on guns, powder and primers. If he doesn't have it, he will order it and I don't even ask the price, its all bargain price. A gun shop can either move inventory, or they can sit on it gleaming about their hi-end store.

A chain of stores here in the Midwest is Scheels. Their Reloading products are reasonably price, no bargain but no big bite out of your wallet. A whole lot better than Gander Mountain and Cabelas........Dan

We're kinda a Gunsmith Shop/Gunstore . But my buds insurance doesn't allow him to keep primers or powder on the premises .

Anyway about 4 times a year we make an order to Parks and Son for reloading stuff and we avail it to our regulars and friends .

We always order over $1500 dealer cost because it's drop shipped for $60 . Last time we ordered we got $2800 dealer cost . We charged enough to cover the $60 shipping and I think we might have made $200 .

When we do this the stuff comes in today and if you got big amounts of powder or primers you're expected to be there that day or the next to pick it up !

So it's all in today and out by tommorrow type deal with no overhead because we pay when it's delivered . And then we're paid when the folks pick it up !

I'm thinking the next time I order from Park's I'm gonna need to get an 8 pounder of Unique for myself since I use that in the 16 gauge shells and an 8 pounder of SR7625 as thats what I use in my 10 gauge 2 7/8” loads !

Need to decide on a powder or two for the 12 and 20 .

Back “in the day” I used WIN 452AA for the 12 and then went to WIN WSL . Also back then I used WIN 473AA for the 20 and when they stopped with that one I went to WIN WSF .

Pigslayer , by any chance did you notice if Hendershots had a good selection of Vihtavourri powders ?

I am sure I didn't spell that correctly but you know what I meant ;)

Like Ed Harris, I would stop in the “original” Hendershots in Hancock, MD each time I drove west to hunt or fish in Garrett County, MD. The old “country” store was chock-full of all kinds of rifles, shotguns, handguns and hunting clothes. Just two weeks ago, I stopped in a very small gunshop in Hanover, PA and spotted an 8# jug of Unique priced at $105. Naturally I bought it. -Ed

Their supply of primers was smal & limited & what I remember was CCI & Winchester. Not a bad powder selection though.

Get this!!! Got my order from Natchez today. They charged $15.30 for shipping & handling & $27.50 Hazmat fee. I ordered on the 25th & got it today (28th). If I had of ordered from Midway I would have paid more for the powder & primers, $29.30 for shipping & handling, a $9.99 drop ship fee & $55.00 hazmat fee!!!! And after all that, they won't ship the hazmats for two weeks!! I'll stick with Natchez as Midway has gotten too big for their britches!!

I am really worried about what all of this Federal Reserve money printing is going to do to prices.
