Lyman's number 4 "Cast Bullet Manual" shows a starting load for the .25-06 with the 120g RCBS bullet as 12g. I thought that might be a little low, but, thought I'd try it. I was surprised to achieve a 5 shot group of .595" at 100 yds! I shot several that day with that load that were around 1 inch. The bullets were powder coated. Is this really a safe load? None of my other loading manuals goes that low for a starting load. The rifle is a Remington 700 SS Mtn Rifle.

Since no one has weighed in on the safety of this load, I decided to contact Alliant. The tech rep said that they don't have cast bullet info on the .25-06. He said that the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook contains pressure tested data, and that 12g of 2400 behind a 120g cast bullet is safe to use in the .25-06.

Great now if only I could find some 2400 or Unique.

The reloading store in Cle Ellum doesn't have any? They usually have Alliant products.

Good to know.  I just became the custodian of a .257 Roberts AI.  Will try.

Cheers from New Zealand
