I’ve never shot the cast nationals so things may be way different than jacketed, but how in the heck can we be three days past the event without so much as a bubble about how the match went.

I wouldn’t expect a tech sheet by now but we should have results of the top three finishers by class in 5 shot, 10 shot & score.

I’m pretty sure everyone who drove away from the match on Sunday knew where they placed. This is part & partial to promoting competitive events. Bill C.

I’ve shot several of these NT’s in years past.

Devil’s advocate here and no criticism… The key responsibility of the CBA VP is to organize, prepare and run the NT. Translation….that’s a huge ton of work, with little appreciation. I have the patience to wait for results and can’t recall NT’s having the results (partial or whole) published shortly after the event.

Assuming there were two relays @ the NT, that’s a lot of participants.

Promoting the event is a whole lot different than actually digging in and doing the required work.

I run local matches and score/measure all of those matches, as well as shoot at them. Some match directors get their results published within 2-3 days while others take a week or so.

I have to admit that there were a few matches where a few of the shooters acted as if the host club was expected to be the entertainment “committee” for the shooters. Only a few but that comes with the territory….not complaining.

The NT is a lot of volunteer work along with even local shoots. The results for those who choose not to attend have been published in the November issue of the Fouling Shot. Now that there are only 4 issues per year I imagine it’s the last issue ?
I have noticed that we have stubbled and clubs posted in the beginning of the year still show dates to be determined. Don’t know how we can expect to attract new non members when there’s no information. I believe our best advertising is simply this website. No one else seems to agree.

It’s worthwhile to understand that many match directors have to “negotiate” with their club’s Board of Directors. The negotiations involve two key items: Dates…other competitive events compete for range time along with the CBA events. Sorting this detail out takes time. Match fees….some clubs move at the speed of molasses when it comes to paying their bills.

Both of these involve a component of time.

As match directors, we need to send the fees and dates at the same time to get the dates in the CBA publication. (The reason for this is not worth spending time on it here.) And some clubs stop holding CBA matches but their name is still listed, without dates, as a courtesy to let readers know the club is still alive but not currently active.

It’s easy to be critical, but all of us need to remember the one word as Shootcast said…VOLUNTEERS.

It’s as unreasonable to expect same day formal results from the Nationals as it is to have dates nailed down for upcoming events with such a small group.

Volunteers are just that, volunteers. Their payout is in a large percentage of criticism and a few heartfelt thanks, mostly from those that had walked the walk sometime in their past. The volunteers that are putting on Nationals today are doing it for the love of the sport.

But I am surprised that there was no updates or casual banter about who did what. By now, at least in competitions I’m used to, there would have been a dozen congratulatory post to those that shot well.

Maybe that’s the way it is with military and benchrest cast competition. Low key & private?

I think it was in 24 that I pointed out how incredibly tough it must have been for Richard Brinkman to shoot a 5 shot (I think) agg in the 6’s or 7’s in PB. Those were 20 shots taken in 20 different conditions and I remember how amazed I was at that. Or that 7 or 8 agg that John A. shot the year before in factory class.

Bottom line is that there was some great shooting in Kansas last weekend and it would be nice to hear a little bit of color about the event. I’m off my soap box now and apologize if I ticked some folks off. Bill.

At most IBS, NBRSA, UBR and even lesser matches, the scores are entered into a spreadsheet via laptop, where the program automatically updates the scores. Most of the matches will print out the standings at the end of each replay, for all to see. Targets are hung as well once scored and entered. People take pics of the printouts and post them on the internet as the match goes on sometimes. I know the CBA has scoring programs. What Wm Cook is asking for isn't the final results and equipment lists, just the scores. There is no reason the hosting club or the CBA should hold the info private. Every shooter has the right to know where he/she stands during a match, and has the right to see all the scored targets.

William, Sorry if I sound ticked off, I’m not. I joined the CBA in 1986 and am just used the pace of things.

What other shooting disciplines do, which are interesting but faster than the CBA, does not mean the CBA is denying anyone their rights or keeping things private. It’s just how the CBA does what the CBA does.

I try to follow things on this forum, and could have missed it, but I haven’t seen anyone who shoots the NT post unhappiness with the speed of results publication. But that doesn’t mean things shouldn’t improve.

Here’s an opportunity for someone to step forward and fill an opening on the CBA BoD and then push to speed things up.

A sanctioned club sends dates for publication. The CBA collects fees for publication of results. If no one shows for a match/ shoot why would a club pay for publication.

I agree 150% with Bill on this. Theres absolutely no reason the class winners and national champ arent available for posting here. I was the DORC for 5 years and know its possible to post this little bit of information.

Given the scarce interest the forum crowd usually shows in competition I'm a bit surprised this even came up.  Having returned from six days on the road and getting caught up on the home chores I have completed the report for the Military Regional match and forwarded it to Jeffrey to be posted in the Match Results section of the website.  It will also be published in the Fouling Shot along with my narrative when I get that completed.

“ William, Sorry if I sound ticked off, I’m not. I joined the CBA in 1986 and am just used the pace of things.”

No problem at all Tom. I didn’t take it that way in the least. For the past few years I was surprised to see such little chatter on the forum before, during and after Nationals. I’m in a minority of a minority of a minority that care about trying to figure out how to get five cast bullets to go through the same hole.

The same goes for those on the CBA forum that exchange ideas and pass along information.

I assume, of the 30+ shooters at the BR Nationals there is only a percentage that read and contribute to the posted threads. Those that shot well in this year’s event can’t toot their own horn (openly brag) on the forum because that’s not in most of our dna. Gee if any of us are carrying that one small group they shot back in 19xx so to pull out and brag about.

But there were enough shooters at the National’s that some could contribute to the conversation by giving an ‘at a boy’ to those that shot a potentially record target. Or point out an individual who they know won their class. Or thanking someone for loaning their rifle to them to finish a group when theirs went belly up.

As I understand it, at this years BR Nationals, the winners of each individual class did know that they had won before they left the match. This means there were others shooting in that class that could give a shout out to the winner and or contribute with some commentary.

Posting pictures isn’t hard and it’s a good way to stir up interest in competition. Make people understand it’s a brotherhood/sisterhood type of affair.

The results for Sunday's 200 yeard match hadn't been posted when I left and my memory isn't good enough to reliably remember all who won in the various classe on either day so I will have to wait for the scores which I assume will be sent to participats soon.

We had pleasant weather both days unless you count some periods of squirrly winds. Pioneer Gun club and the CBA board members involved did their usual excellent job of running the match smoothy. Several young people participated and some of them did very well. Two familes, the Duncans and the Pollards, fielded shooters of three generations.  Some regular attendees in past years who are no longer with us were missed including Frank Craig, Clark Ehlers,, and Bud Hyett.

There were animated conversations and arguments through out the weekend, and many people who hadn't seen each  other for a few years got caught up. Everybody seemed to be having a good time although there was the usual complaining about shots that had mysterously gone astray.

The local Oak Grove Econo Lodge where many of us stay has been upgradeded over the years until it is now a first class joint.

I enjoyed seeing old friends, both shooters and members of the Pioneer Club who have worked to provide an excellent match for us year after year. It was well worth six days of driving to attend although one of the motels along the way was pretty gnarly.

Thanks John. I heard there were a couple small groups in factory but I have no specifics.

If anyone can fill in any other details on any of the classes it would be appreciated.

I had guessed that the winds would be honest on Saturday but worse on Sunday. That’s often the case isn’t it. Sundays can be nasty, and reaching out to 200 yards makes things complicated by a factor of 10. And the Midwest winds, on a bright and sunny day, can be tricky.

Glad everyone had a good time and that the match was run smoothly. My hat’s off to you for driving the ~1,800 miles to get there. Bill.

If a club's match dates are not listed in The Fouling Shot or on the website, it is because the club has not yet submitted its match schedule or paid the required sanctioning fees. We can only publish information that has been officially submitted. It is the responsibility of each Match Director to provide their match dates so they can be included on the website and in the quarterly magazine.

Putting on a National Tournament takes a village. The Board of Directors works closely with our Vice President to deliver a match that is well organized and worthwhile for everyone who participates.

It is important to remember that many of us are also working full-time jobs. Behind the scenes, we are doing our best to compile data, organize results, create certificates, write articles for The Fouling Shot, and complete many other tasks that often go unnoticed.

We understand that everyone is eager to see the results, and we appreciate that enthusiasm. At the same time, please give those of us doing the work a little grace as we catch our breath after spending eight to ten days on the road and then returning immediately to the day jobs that pay our bills.

We are doing the best we can. If timely posting of results is important to you, we would welcome additional volunteers who are willing to help with the process.

Thanks Glen and a hearty congratulations to all the rest of the class winners.

Glenn, by any chance, do you remember what your 5 shot / 10 shot aggregates were @ 100yds? Bill

Bill, I don't have the 10-shot 100 yard targets, but:

100 yd 5-shot agg 1.020"

200 yd 5-shot agg 2.007"

200 yd 10-shot agg 2.100"

This was with my old Savage 110E in 270, shooting the NOE 279-126-FN cast of used linotype and pushed by 23 grains of AA LT-30, velocity 1990 fps.  It's a smokin' load, but it shoots clean. Lube beeswax & ATF.
