44 mag.dies

can anybody tell me what kind of die set i need to reload 44 mag.i see a lot that are marked swc if that means semi wad cutter only.i don't want that. i am looking for one that will work for 240 gr.bullet.thanks in advance.have a good day

do you mean that your 240 bullets are round nose ... so you need a round nose seating rod.punch/screw/stem ?

that would be the only difference in a set of dies .

it doesn't take much pressure to seat a bullet, so the standard stem may be ok..... if not, you can fill the hollow stem with soft lead or epoxy and press your bullet nose into that and form your stem cavity to your bullet nose shape.

you can also contact the die mfg direct and they can make you a custom stem . lee charges #8.00 .

What bullet design are you working with? The seating stems usually work with most bullet types. Sometimes I see seating stems that are a bit short for full wadcutters, but dies marked for 44 Mag & 44 Spl should do what you need.

I use the RCBS Carbide Cowboy Dies, all I shoot is cast. It says they are for 44 Special and Russian but they do Magnums fine. All I shoot is 44 Mag and if the dies aren't happy loading Mags they haven't said anything. The expander and the rest of the dies are designed for cast bullets.

sounds as if you are on the right track .

44 mag is a great cartridge ... anywhere from wimpy tin can busters to elk medine ....

i have traded mine off but still have molds and dies ... one of these days !!!
