Bill,it is generally poverty or greed that drives spammers. They wouldn't do it if there was no chance that somebody wasn't foolish enough to take the hook. I stole cheese once to feed my family, people do odd stuff when they are broke or greedy.

Bill, I think it is a fact of life. I usually get the messages, topic and all, deleted before too many see them since I am on Eastern time.  Mike has told me not to do that so he can see them and block future messages.  I have just let him know of the most recent ones. Hopefully we can keep them to a minimum and just ignore them until we get them all - if that ever happens. John

Gary, I can see how somone could be drawn to desperation, but this stuff seems too well contrived, and skilfully computerized, to be the output of some hobby-hacker. But--whadda I know? Still, I can remember my wife's Grandfather during the depths of the depression, talking about how tough some people were having it.. He was still working, but many weren't. Several times he went to his front porch, to pick up his scheduled milk delivery, only to see some man making off with it. He never did a thing about it; he figured the person(s) needed it more than he did. Gave me a profound respect for Grampa.

Watch the word selection and sentence structure in the spam. Eventually you will recognize the translation pattern mixed with the gibberish pattern that is characteristic of Russian spam. Russian hackers and spammers are the most powerful and persistent in the world because of their pitiful desperation. This is also a testament to something we should celebrate in America: Socialism and Communism do not work.
