Not about our cast bullets this evening, I would just like you all to keep all those working the fire lines out here in your thoughts and prayers. A lot of people out there doing a hot and dangerous job.  We're burning up out here in the west.  Thanks to all.  Gp

Washington just sent 200 National Guardsmen to augment the overworked fire fighters so they can get to fires no one has gotten to yet. No one is talking about Alaska that has lost several thousand square miles to wildfire.

Three firefighter killed this afternoon and 4 burned. Things are tough out here this week; two towns under mandatory evacuation orders.

Western fellas, has it always been this bad with fires or is it just new folks building where they ought not. Seems a cement block home with a tile roof and surrounded by bare ground would help some.

Mostly it is two things: 125 years of commercial forestry and modern style landscaping. We are on our third cycle of clear cutting and replanting with only one species of tree. Aggressive firefighting for 100 years to protect the forest have left thick layers of duff on the ground. The trees are all the same size and type so the insects that feed on those trees have killed a large percentage of trees in areas. With the drought, people are unable to keep 25 feet of green around their houses. Plus the normal city folks that want wood shingle roofs and wood sided houses.
