Parker's with Buckshot and slugs !

Monday I'll make a little trip to the range early !

I wanna try my handloaded 0 Buck loads in my Parker VH 12 gauge as well as my handloaded Lyman 525 grain sabot slugs . I'll shoot a load of buck from the right barrel check the pattern cover the wholes and repeat with the left barrel . Also wanna shoot a 3 shot group with the slugs from the right barrel then cover the holes and repeat in the left barrel . And finally with the 12 gauge I wanna shot a slug from the right and left barrels to see how close they are . All of this at 25 yards of course .

Also am taking my Parker GH 16 gauge to shoot buckshot patterns of handloaded #1 Buck from both barrels .

Whole deal shouldn't take more then 30 minutes mostly walking back and forth and taping up the holes .

I had wanted to load buck for bothe guns with Winchester Grex buffer but I didn't get around to it , so I'll use what I already had loaded . If these don't look okay I'll go back and load some with Grex later .

Just got in the shop from the range etc !  Parker VH 12 gauge on #2 frame with 30” barrels choked full and fuller !This is the gun I've shot at the Virginia State Trap Shoot the last two years . Just finished loading a dozen of the same buckshot load but with three 9mm cases of Win Grex buffer in as well . Perhaps in the morning I'll try and see if there's any difference !

The unbuffered 12 gauge shells I shot Monday morning contained 12 pellets of 0 Buck . The shells I loaded yesterday I used the Claybuster knockoff of the WAA12 and was only able to get nine pellets in them . Then it struck me I had used the REM SP12 wad to get 12 pellets . So this evening I loaded a few with the REM SP12 wad and 3 9mm casings full of WIN Grex buffer . IT was raining today when I planned to visit the range so that's been delayed . Perhaps I can get there thrusday or Friday morning .

Still wanna load up some buffered 16 gauge loads for my drilling the GH Parker and my AH Fox A grade . Might try some of the factory buckshot stuff in the Fox as well when I have it out .

This evening it was raining again so I exchanged the 12 gauge press for the 16 gauge press and loaded a dozen 16 gauge shells with 12 od the #1 Buck using the REM SP16 wad and three 9mm cases full of WIN Grex . After that I did the same thing using the Claybuster knockoff of the old WIN WAA16 wad . Wanna try the 12 gauge stuff in my Parker VH and GH guns and possibly my VHE . Wanna try the 16 gauge stuff in my Parker GH , AH Fox A grade and the Kerner drilling .

Just got in the shop from going to the range and running errands ! The buffered loads in the Parker VH 12 looked good but not much difference in the Parker GH 12 . I also shot some more Lyman 525 slugs thru the VH and the groups were decent again . Tried my circa 1930 AH Fox A Grade 16 gauge with factory Brenneke and Remington slugs as well as handloaded #1 Buckshot and this gun seems to be a decent slug shooter especially with the Brenneke slugs . Handloaded buck in this one was pretty decent with the SP-16 wad but not so great with the Claybuster knockoff og the WAA16 . Tried my GH 16 gauge damascus gun with the buffered handloads of #1 Buck in the SP-16 wad and the Claybuster knockoff of the WAA16 wad . The WAA16 wasn't worth taking a picture and the bufferred load in the SP-16 was about the same as unbuffered . Now my Kerner drilling really liked the buffered loads with the SP-16 wad . But not so much in the WAA16. I'll post pics later today I hope !

Have you tried cast buckshot vs.soft swaged?

No I'm not wasting my lead on buckshot . I did however cast some .445 round balls to try in my latest Parker EH 10 gauge . But for that I can't use SP-10 shotcup . I think my article days are pretty much gone .  I suspect the furthest east any of these will be used will most likely be Louisa or possibly Hanover counties in Virginia .

While the majority of my intrest in the buckshot or slug thing is in the 10 , 12 and 16 I plan on eventually doing something with several 20 gauge doubles I have . Have one nice Parker VHE 28” , Fox Sterlingworth 28” , another Sterlingworth 26” as well as a pair of Browning Superposed one 28” and one 26 1/2” .  I have some factory loaded buckshot for the 20 gauge 2 3/4” with #1 buck . This was the first time I'd ever seen/noticed 20 gauge shells loaded with anything larger then #2 or #3 Buck . They shoot well enough to kill a deer inside 25 yards I'd say but I still wanna delve a little deeper in the 20's perhaps next year with #2 and #3 Buck handloaded . I suppose I could get by with 000 , 0 , #1 and maybe #3 buck . But I find it so much more fun to try this that or the other so as of late I've been keeping 000 , 00 ,0 , 1 , 2 and 3 . I may get some 0000 to try in my 10 gauge guns just for the heck of it , but for that stuff I'll have to forego the SP10 wad and use a Mylar wrap and some cushion wads to get them to fit . That may be a couple years down the road .

I'm heading to the range in the morning . Going to take my Parker VHE 20 gauge 28” M&F . I have some european 20 gauge shells that are factory loaded with #1 Buck . Tonight I loaded a few #2 Buck shells . Rem SP20 wad 14 pellets and three 9mm cases of Grex .  Also loaded some #3 Buck , SP20 wad and 18 pellets of #3 Buck . Oh yes I used SR7625 in both loads .

I've pretty much gotten my 20 gauge handloads with #2 and #3 buck worked out in the little Parker VHE , I have stuff loaded for trial in my Fox Sterlingworth 20 gauge 28” gun as well ! Both the Parker and the Fox are 28” modified in the right barrel and full in the left barrel .

The factory #1 buck 20 gauge ammo shot ok in the Fox Sterlingworth 20 gauge . The #2 buck 16 pellets in a REM SP20 wad with three 9mm cases of Grex was awesome 16/16 from both barrels . The #3 buck in the CB WAA20 wads was not as good although not bad either .

Picked up a bunch of new old stock Remington 20 gauge 2 3/4” foster slugs and a couple boxes of Traditional Brenneke 20 gauge 2 3/4” as well . My plan is to hit the range Wednesday for some other stuff so I think I'll try my Parker VHE and Fox Sterlngworth 28” 20 gauge guns !

Got out to the range this AM . Had a bunch of stuff to try and or test .Tried some new old stock Remington rifled slugs first and they patterned nicely at 25 yards by the barrel but sadly they crossed point of aim before reaching the target . The slugs from the right barrel were about 5” left of point of aim and the left barrel was likewise but to the right . Tried some new old stock Breneke slugs and it was the same story . So that idea is pretty well forgotten . I next tried my little Parker VHE 20 gauge 28” also M&F . Tried the Brenneke slugs first shot two from the right and then two from the left . They were right in there at point of aim and the four holes all fit in about a 4” circle . I can live with that . I next tried the old Remington Foster slugs in the Parker and they weren't nearly as good but they would work to kill a deer . Got some new Brenneke KO 20 gauge slugs in an order from Jerry's today ! I wanna try them in both the Parker VHE and the Sterlingworth 28” guns . Plan on shooting them this Wednesday !
