My two cavity aluminum version makes very concentric bullets that measure .3124 @ bands using linotype alloy. Bullet weight average is 150gr (weight range from 149.8 to 150.2 cast @ 800 degrees linotype)

If you guys were to design a 308 Winchester reamer to match “just” this cast bullet, what specs would you request? (neck diameter, leade length and diameter, throat angle)?

Your bullet was designed to fit a .1 to .07 long freebore and a 1.5 deg. per side throat angle. A standard PTG leade angle but, they miss the math a little and they got 1.42 deg on the bullet in front of the first band. It still should work on that throat design.

I was thinking a longer .150 308 NATO free bore, .310 diameter and a 1.10 deg. per side throat angle. This would keep my gas check inside neck of case. Shouldn't case neck be turned for a snug fit in chamber for better accuracy.

Shot these groups using my factory Remington 700 VS chambered in 308 Winchester (long worn NATO chamber). Bullets were sized to .3115 and hand dipped in Lee Alox. Hold on rifle was inconsistent and barrel was very hot after shooting 50 rounds non stop without cleaning. The middle and bottom two groups are the NOE 165 bullet (20gr, 22gr, 24gr 4759).

Good bullet fit and higher velocity with slower burning powder. Both n140 and Varget did verywell at higher velocities. No bump die
I paid $118.00 for 8 lbs of the N140 powder back in 1996

Got a few more loaded up to test. Range is very crowded with deer hunters this time of year...so this may take a couple of weeks to test.

Been thinking of having a custom reamer made for this bullet. Shorter 308 neck with longer leade length of .250 maybe? Much like the 308 NATO , but smaller diameter of .310 and less throat taper.

I shot two fouling shots before shooting this 8 shot group. Flyer top left was the third shot. I also tested 40grs 2500fps and 42grs 2600fps...these did not do nearly as well. This bullet likes the long 308 NATO worn throat. More 10 shot groups to come using same load.
