They have a number of problems over there most of which can be attributed to having more than 34,000 members now. 1. New owner 2. New “Super Moderators" 3. Servers that are over worked with the traffic 4. High level of ignorance of all sorts

Attitudes have changed a lot recently. Mostly due to the huge # of new members of younger age. They have the I want it now attitude and do not want to have to work for any accomplishment. I like trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. It just makes it that much better when you get the “ahah!” moment.
There are still some very knowledgeable people on the site but they don't post much. Same here. I am still considered a newbie even though I have been casting since the mid 90's. Casting was a way to still shoot when $$$ was tighter. The more $ is tight, the more I cast for my habit. Now that the price and availability of powders are tighter than ever, it makes even more sense to cast because of the less use of powder.
Anyone else???

You've noticed too!
4. High level of ignorance of all sorts
Shame too many folks don't buy reference books - don't know how to use their browser for the Internet and Search command - what's that! .>

I bailed on them too, along with a number of others I know. We have been working other boards, trying to see if they could be developed into something more than the other place has devolved into. Way too much silliness there for my taste, and as one of the other guys said “casting 50 lbs of bullets doesn't make you an expert".

There are still some very knowledgeable people on the site but they don't post much. I've drawn back from the site for the reasons you state. The problems have been increasing steadily in the last 3 or so years and it isn't much fun anymore for me. A couple members here that I know from there have totally quit that forum. It is a shame. I believe it is a combination of several things in addition to the rapid membership growth.
I have come to enjoy the CBA forum more and I fear the other forum is going down the same path of some other gun related forums I once visited often.

I am still quite active on the Cast Boolit forum but know nothing about the present problems with the internet.
They have been down for a couple or three days now. It must be serious to be down so long.
Frankly, I hope they get it back up a running shortly.
There are a lot of good people still trying to help on a daily basis.

Frankly I like the other site. One can usually learn something there also, you just have to separate the wheat from the chaff. Not being a rifle bullet caster I suppose makes a difference too but for my purposes I'd have to say I've found more on there than on this one. I'll continue to enjoy both of them.

The other board has grown to mammoth size with over 34,000 members. That number means there is money to be made. There is a new owner and a small cadre of “Super Moderators” who patrol the site with a meat ax looking for anybody that might rock the boat and tip over the rice bowl. It has become an inhospitable place for the original members of which there are very few left. Most have moved on. With them went a vast amount of knowledge. You can count the folks over there now on the fingers of one hand with deep first hand knowledge of the subject matter. I am glad they are there and hope they remain. If volume of posts is the indicator of worth, that place wins hands down. If quality of the posts is the indicator of worth, this is the place to be. I was deeply involved in that group since it's inception in 1998 and have been there through all the moves, changes and ups and downs. At the present time, I am not involved.

Same here Chargar. I no longer visit the Springfield or surplus rifle boards, or other reloading boards. It may be that I am jaded with the same inane posts over and over, or just with people who are there just to make a buck. Ric

I went as far as to request that they disable my login, since I wouldn't be coming back. They refused to honor my request. I'm guessing that their advertising revenues are tied to site traffic and member count.

Being a member there is a little like being a British citizen. The Brits feel like anybody wanting to renounced their British citizenship must be crazy, so they won't honor the request of a crazy person. So once you are a British citizen, you are one for life even if you naturalize I another country. You are not the only one to ask to be removed and had the request ignored. I have also done it on two occasions. I suspect you are correct in your evaluation of their motives.

I have nothing against folks trying to make a buck for that is the American way, so I wish them well in that regard. However in their rush to bigness and to maintain order among the masses, it ceased to be any kind of warm community that it once way. It was once “our place", but is now “My place and if you don't like the way things are, don't let the door hit you on the backside on the way out.” There is a general lack of respect and disregard for the folks who provided the knowledge base that make the site a money maker. The original folks, who try and reclaim what it once way, are shown the door. One by one, the originals are shown the door and given a shove. We really should not expect anything different as money is king and bigness equals more money. I have come to accept that it is an entirely different place and bear no resemblance to what it once way. The hands of the clock can't be turned back, so there is no use in mourning the loss of something that will never come back. Onward and upward Lads! Let us speak no more of it.

If it's the forum I believe it to be, I used to visit once in a while, until there was a series of postings from a person who was a backer of a politician I despise. This person was so obnoxious, and had such a juvenile sense of politics/worldview that at first it was amusing. However, the postings quickly morphed into some virulent statements, and I quickly tired of of being subjected to his moronic vituperative postings. I've withdrawn from such forums before, and will do so again if they are not satisfying my want of knowledge, and preventing my being able to correspond with rational people of like interests. In short: I'm in it for the fun. I don't need nasty. Bill
In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is. My fate is not entirely in Gods hands, if I have a weapon in mine.

What the hell they let me out and deleted my account so fast I felt the door hit me!!! A lot of people blame all the problems on new guys. I see it totally different. I think the problem was a select group of guys that that became instant experts and cruised the forum like sharks just waiting to jump on people. They all were running 7 or more posts a day every day of the year which to my way of thinking left very little time to actually accomplish all the wonders they were telling everyone they do with ease but never in front of anyone. They should have been told to pipe down a long time ago but instead were encouraged to keep it up. I've gone so far as to offer to drive 350 miles and spend a day at the range with one of the worst of the lot but for some reason he always had an excuse. I'm off of there and don't miss the nonsense and BS one bit.

I find that many people are experts who have never shot a match even a postal match. For some reason people just don't want to shoot paper targets. when I was much younger I too didn't shoot paper targets damn things just don't lie. I do know that the experts wont show up for a cba match even when they are invited. I can tell you that I have never seen anyone belittled at any cba match. I started to learn when I shot my first postal match. health issues have cut into both my shooting and how well I shoot. but I hope I have many more years to learn.
if you think you have it figured out then you just dont understand

Re. the CBA matches; it reminds me of an old tire ad that went 'where the rubber meets the road'.

sorting the wheat from the chaff ... pretty well describes the sittiation on c-booooring ... but i gotta relate that i have reading the swaging threads , starting from the earliest and going forward ...back about 2007 year ... pretty good stuff, with input from straight people for the most part.
lots of wheat, not much chaff ... so far.
also about a month ago my friend ... low bucks john ... posted some great words on making homemade aluminum gas checks ..
maybe the more techie the thread is, the less chaff shows up.
if you want to make castbooooolits look good, try reading a facebook group on ar15 type shooting ..aaaarrggh

I quit cast boolits when a post of mine was pulled because it might offend someone. It was a news report about 7 or 8 cops shooting over 100 rounds into the wrong make, model and color pick up. Oh yes, thy managed to wound an elderly lady. I value my first amendment rights just as much as my second. I will NOT visit any forum that infringes on Any of my rights.
