Yes. Longer is better for the sight radius and balance however.

That depends on the powder charge.Probably also the powder maker. Long barrels burn heavier charges better. This can be proven by shooting over snow. You will be able to see the unburned powder. Also shooting in real humid weather you can see smoke streamers from unburned powder. Another rule of thumb was seeing orange fouling at the muzzle. That means things are about right. Don't let the 24 inch barrel scare unless you want to shoot heavy loads in a .58.

I think it was Ned Roberts said an inch of powder for every foot of barrel. Therefore a 24” barrel would get a 2” column of powder. Doesn’t matter what the caliber is.
