I would like to buy a factory take off stock for a Sako L46 the one imported in 222, 218b and Hornet back in the 1950s.  Any condition.

Try Kesselring's: (360) 724-3113. They have a pile of take-off stocks hanging in the shop and more downstairs.

Warning: They will want a premium price for them,

John, could I ask you to put a little bit of background to what you’re doing?  It sounds like there’s an interesting project playing out.  Bill.

Never pass up a chance to tell a story.

Bought a Sako L46 barreled action  in 1962 ($60+or - complete rifle was $135 as I remember.)  Bought a "semi finished" stock that looked as much like a canoe paddle as a sock.  A winter of whittling away turned it into a pretty fine looking rifle.

i knew about floating barrels but didn't like their looks and fittest action and barrel as tight as possible, no gaps. But when I thought of the dozens of hours spent avoiding the gaps I wished I had spent more on fancier wood. Contrary to convention wisdom, It shot as well as other factory Sakos, which was darned good with the bullets of the day, even with all that wood pressing in.

Sixty years, and quite a few  squirrels later (40 grain Sierra "Hornet" or 225415 pushed along with 4gr of Bullseye or 6 of 2400).  I got a hankering to see how well I could shoot a sporting type aperture sight and blade front with 85 year old eyes. Don't ask why. At 85 you are allowed to do strange things.  I chased down and bought one of those nifty two zero Sakp sights that clamp to the receiver dovetails.

When I got it to the range I found that my nice stock done exactly right for my short stumpy shape with comb height for a scope wouldn't even let me see through the low mounted sights.  A little planning woulda ----

Thus the search for a factory stock.  If I could find one I could also see if the thing would have actually shot a bit better free floated.
