While I have the old IHMSA manual and several hundred loads for 32/20's, none are over 150 grains. You may have to look at the CBA plain base bullet crowd with heavy bullets data.

Did the receiver come with the barrel too? If so, an amazing deal. BTW, the new SSK receivers are AMAZING.

George, Slower powders with heavy bullets in the 10" barrel leave substantial unburned powder in bore. One needs to find the happy balance. Use of a magnum primer can be helpful to get the charge lit off with more uniform combustion.

Size the neck to .308 standards, not the .311 that the loading die expander ball comes with in .32-20. Swap that rascal out to a .308 expander ball for more neck tension and higher shot-start pressure.

If you don't have QuickLoad, send me the cast bullet info and powder you intend to use and I can crunch some numbers for you.

Thanks Aaron.i do have QL.I have a Lee 32-20 FL die that is tight in  the neck so I'm ok on neck tension.

I was surprised how big / long the throat was.

I just bought the barrel, I already had the frame

Mike Bellm has some great articles on the T/C family of barrels from the earliest to the latest. He addresses twist rates, bore diameter, throats, chamber alignment, and other points. Great reading if you have not read his stuff.

the 32-20  vs 300 Whisper is within 3g water capacity( 22 bs 25 that I've found) . I wonder if I could safely extrapolate starting loads for heavier bullets?

if im thinking about this wrong let me know.

I have a sneaking suspicion you will get higher velocity with FFFG Black Powder with the heavier bullets. (Compressed charges)

Worth a look.

I found the data I'd lost from an IHMSA site.

I'll email it to you Aaron.

most loads tracked pretty close to Quickload.

I'm off to the 50' indoor range to pop 20 round off to see if I can blow myself up like I did with a blackpowder error a few years back!

it's my Freddy Kruger look. This was 10 or so days after when I was looking better.

hint..don't leave an  open can of powder next to your rifle, a spark might land in there! .it was really fun to be on fire and deaf.

4.2 HP38 with SAECO #315 very mild and shot about 1" at 50'.

10.5 H110 with RCBS 180SP was stout and shot about 2" at 50'.Pressures seemed fine.

Light was pretty poor and I had trouble seeing the sights. The gun as I'd assumed shot over 16" high

Ill.make a taller front before the weekend shoot outdoors off of a good rest with better lighting.

Need to find a set of Redding 30/20 dies to the most accurate round.

my dies work fine.no need for 30-20 as I have a tight lee die for better neck tension if needed. With the big throat I'm using .311 diameter.

More important to fit throat than worry about bore dimensions I've found.

my 50' groups were 16" above POI with sight near bottom as mentioned above .I made a new front blade this evening on the little Sherline mill.I left  room to file to get closer.

Out tomorrow outdoors at 25 yards to see how I did

It Was windy and I got too lazy to shoot outside. I went back to the 50' indoor range and after filing around a bit I got close enough to where I want to be with the new front sight. I shot one group with each of the bullets i had left after the adjustments. I have a heck of a time with lighting in that dungeon of an indoor range.

I will be looking forward to getting outside and I think I might cheat and put a scope on it.

Back in day we did shot a lot of 30/20 rounds, until Field Pistol and Hunter's Pistol matches disappeared.

I have both a 10 inch and 14 or is it 15 inch TC 30-20 barrels. Shot a lot of H110 in both. R7 worked great in longer barrel. Can’t remember using it in the shorter but might work as well. But as far as heavy goes I Shot the the RCBS 165 Silhouette. I shot big bore categories. IHMSA can give you the latest greatest. As far as my charges go I would have to research it. Been a long time and memory might be off. You can PM me if interested.

Just got back from silhouette tonight. 10 in MGM barrel likes the RCBS 165 Silhouette bullet over 8 grs of VV N110. I'll recheck the velocity later but it's a good round for big bore.
