Sako extractor

I bought a new replacement Sako extractor kit from Pacific Tool. Are there any "tricks" to installing it? The old one failed. You have to keep external pressure one the extractor piece while at the same time pushing on the end of the extractor to get it in deep enough to "click" into place. Keeping pressure on the outer surface of the extractor while trying to push the extractor into place becomes a real challenge. That little spring is really strong!

The bolt is a Remington XP-100.

Thanks for any input!

I don't know of any "tricks" - you simply have to struggle through the procedure. Sometimes it slides right in.

There is a tool for that. Try Brownells.

This topic has been resolved.

I bought a Sako extractor kit from Pacific Tool. I jigged the bolt in a small c-clamp, with one jaw over the extractor slot. This was to free one hand that would normally try to keep the extractor in place while depressing the extractor onto the plunger and spring. The clamp was then put between the jaws of a vice. I put a few drops of Kroil into the slot, but it semmed like I just could not push hard enough to get things to move.

Then I removed the bolt and tapped it on the bench to get my new plunger and spring out. And...they came out...... along with the old spring!

Reload and re-jig everything and it went together just fine. Kind of hard to deoress TWO springs! Shot it in a match yesterday and all went well.

Why? It is pointless to remove threads that offer information for others who may face the same issue in the future. Unless you are referring to the auto generated "has your post been answered yet?" emails. A forum "feature" that I find objectionable and unproductive. Most forum posts are not questions that need to be answered. Those that are, asking the OP to choose the one right answer is rather ignorant. How often is the OP that doesn't know able to discern the one true and correct answer to his question? What does he base it on, post count, reputation, or what seems like the right answer? Any of the above could be wrong, and worse in the world of cast bullets, reloading, and gunsmithing wrong answers could result in death.

Removing threads after folks have given freely of their time to answer the question or give feedback on an idea is an insult to those that reply.

Sorry, not sorry Tom for hijacking your thread but honestly why would you remove a thread?

Mark,

I agree. I won't remove it. Who knows, someone else down the road might stumble into a similar situation.

From now on I'll ignore the "auto notice" stupidness!

By the way, as a follow-up to one of the suggestions.....I could not find a Brownells tool to help with installation. Brownells does have something for removing the extractor.

Good observations, Mark....thanks!
