Just got a gun back from my sister. She's moving way far away. Her husband said they no longer needed it as they were moving to a much safer city.

Ruger Speed-Six, I bought it new at New York Hardware in downtown LOS ANGELES.  In July 1980. She went to the range with our Dad & I the next month, to shoot the old Model 10 6" that I had bought for her home defense gun. She was recently divorced & living in the Hollywood Hills.

She shoot the 10 well enough & seemed happy with it. Then I brought out my new gun. She "glommed" onto it immediately.  Wanted it only. No "f" way. Well.......when I got home the model 10 was in my shooting bag & the speed-6 was not.

I drove to her house w/ the model 10 to swap out guns. She wouldn't let me in. Called Dad. I was screwed. Had to get her a lock box in 1988 so their 4yr old didn't  get to it. Never saw it again.

Called last month, moving to Carmel.  If I wanted the gun back ? Come get it or she'll give it to LAPD. Opened the box, she couldn't.  Had forgotten combo. I had set it same as mine. THE DAMNED BLUED GUN HAD MELTED INTO THE FOAM. I pulled it out, cylinder wouldn't open, ran my thumb hard over the edge of a cylinder flute to rub off foam, RUST!!!!!!!!!!. Closed box, walked out.

Came home, took one of wife's chill pills. Garage,  old toothbrush. Things started to look up. Kept brushing, got cylinder open. Removed old TWO PIECE PACHMAYRS.  Disassembled gun, cleaned everything. Used Ballistol.  Reassembled gun.

THANKS to American Security for whatever miracle foam they put in that box. I got back a gun in 99percent new condition,  that I bought 37yrs ago & fired only 6rds out of. There was no rust except that one spot along the edge of one cylinder flute.

THANK YOU "gun gods" for a "new gun". Haven't had a new one in at least a dozen years. 3.0grs Bullseye/358477 hear we come.

great story !! ... and old guns ( like us old people ) have the most interesting stories ...  in fact, today i get to play with a win. 94 in 38-55 .... made in 1896 !!! ... in good shape ... i will be listening to some good stories from it .... i bet !! ...   already it told me that the 38-55 was the daddy of the 30-30 ... not the other way around !! ...  got bullets castered ready to go already !! ...

just like that little speck of rust gives your ruger a good story to tell ... ya just gotta listen when it's talking . ( g ) .

Man, that's love. Good thing she's family! I gave a family member (whom I love dearly) my P14 Enfield back in the early 1990s. His plan was to use the action to build a razoo big caliber shooter of some sort. In exchange he was going to build me a custom 30-06. Neither gun got built until around 3 years ago, when I received a nice 30-06 on a 98 Mauser action with a new Bill Hobaugh barrel that had been saved all these years. Some of you seniors might remember that name. He was a well-known barrel maker in Phillipsburg, MT and had his share of mention in 1960's era shooting magazines. To make it sweeter, the P14 came back home the same time, untouched. Gotta love family.

Well, I got out to the indoor range today with my Bud; Judge Spicer.  Shoot that SPEED-SIX.  Shoots as straight as you could want. .38's with 160rs #358311 over 4.0grs of UNIQUE. Also tried a few .357mag; the hot loads I grew up with that now I only shoot in a New Model BLACKHAWK or S&W model 27.  Thompson gas check bullet over a no longer published charge of 2400. EXTREME MUZZLE FLASH. Reminded me why I sent the 2 3/4 inch Security-Six I bought in 1976 back to RUGER to be rebarreled  to 6 inch.

Also shot his ancient COLT Police Positive 6" in .32 New Police, aka .32 S&W Long. Sweet little gun. My Little RUGER. 32H&R too.  I have cases primed & Bullets cast. I got the Top Punches, IF ONLY THE BLASTED LUBI-SIZER dies would show up.

Then back home to Lunch. Knochwurst, Sauerkraut & potato latkhas. With sourcream,  applesauce & sweet-hot German mustard on the side.

And my new LYMAN Digital Thermometer showed up in the mail.

A really great day.
