I have been lusting over photos of the new Colt King Cobra .22 for some time. After finally being able to see one in person, my lust turned to need aka want.

Does anyone own one or know someone that does?

I just need that final review to push me over the edge.

im not that thrilled with mine.

1- Front sight to low to get a zero.Shot 6" high at 25 yards with sights bottomed out.I called Colt and they said tough cookies buy an aftermarket from Wilson.i made my own .

2- it has a habit of randomly not rotating to the next chamber. It has gotten better after 2000 rounds but occasionally does it.

3- Anything but standard velocity ammo is very difficult to eject from the cylinders.

4- Accuracy is very so-so.Calling it a target revolver is really stretching it.I've tried many types of match ammo and if I get 10 into 2" rested at the 50' indoor range it's rare.My single six shoots better groups when shot side by side.

5- rear sight windage has a very small allen grub screw you need to unlock to adjust windage. Poor design

The good is the action and trigger are super smooth and I can shoot it double action better than any revolver I own.If I don't shoot it ap paper I'm enjoying shooting it but for $1000 they could have done better. If  it was $600 I'd probably not be as critical.

if I  didn't scare you away buy the Speedbeez speed loaders and tray. Its a great set up.

You simply can't be a cowboy with that shiny double action new fangled hogleg. A real cowpoke totes a 1873 SAA replica in 22LR with 12 shots.

At half the price you get twice the fun busting plastic jugs.

A different gun but I recently bought a S & W 617 and just love it! Very accurate and no complaints so far. I haven't shot it a lot, less than 500 rounds but as soon and this Midwest weather warms up a bit I'll put a lot more rounds through it. I will say that when I first got it the action was a bit tight and not as smooth as I would have liked, not anything like my 686 which has been shot thousands of times. But it has slicked up a lot after shooting a few rounds.

I have a 17-3 and its a great pistol. I thought about the 617 but was wanting something just a bit smaller for the trail. The 617 is beautiful pistol.I like full size .22's.

I owned a S&W Model 17, 8 3/8” bbl. for quite a few years. Sold it after I stopped shooting IHMSA silhouettes. Absolutely no complaints, was a great revolver. Had the typical mushy S&W rear sight assembly but I worked around that.

To buy another one,n that’s what I’d look for.

A friend has a Smython…a S&W .357 with a Colt ribbed barrel. He likes the action of the S&W better than a Python.

I guess a person needs to be smarter than me to take a Colt revolver apart and put it back together.

22 rimfire revolvers are the most fun to shoot. Especially accurate ones.

Best, most accurate .22 revolver I ever shot was a Colt Officers model target revolver made in the late 50's. I never ran across a Smith 17 that could match it's accuracy. It's been years since I shot a revolver competitively but if I had to buy the best it would be one of the later series Colt Officers model that came with wood Python grips.

I can't speak for the new 22lr Cobra, it has pretty good reviews online, but I recently bought a new Colt Python blue with six inch barrel and I absolutely love it.  The one single thing I can fault is the new rear sight on it.  The windage will not hold especially with that puny little set screw to anchor it.  Also the rear sight blade notch is just a hair too narrow, so I put a Wilson rear sight on it. Much better sight.

I have an early model Ruger bull barrel target Mark I.  I didn't think much could out shoot it, not counting full fledged expensive target pistol, until I bought a S&W 617 with six inch barrel stainless back in the 90's. It does stay right there with that Ruger. I've had so much fun with that revolver.  Then after a number of years I got a 22 Magnum cylinder for it from S&W.  Now I'm really having a lot more fun with it and it's pretty dang accurate with the 22 mags too, but not as much as the rimfire. Now I'll tell you what shoots very well and is good 22 magnum pistol and that is S&W's new semi auto pistol with the Tempo barrel system. 100% reliable and very accurate for a 22 mag. It also holds 31 rounds with one up the snout. I have a green reflex sight on it and the pistol is very light and well made. Don't take me for a hug S&W afficionado because I am not especially their semi auto pistols.

Back to the Colt 22lr revolver. Back in the 70's I got a Colt Diamond Back 4 inch blue. Beautiful revolver and basically a miniature Colt Python. Thing is it didn't shoot very accurate. No problem getting the empties out of it, but the accuracy plagued me.  Year went by and I read about the Diamond Back's having a large bore and groove. The man that wrote the article couldn't figure out why when Colt semi auto 22lr pistols were so accurate, what was wrong with their revolvers. Well the answer was the bore and grooves. Whereare the semi's have the normal bore and grooves the revolvers did not. He said to find and shoot the fastest 22lr's from it which I did and they are at that time from PMC.  It improved some, but eventually I got fed up with it and sold it.

Anymore as Aaron and I have talked it's playing roulette buying a new firearm.

I had two 6" .22 Diamondbacks for many years; easily the least accurate of my .22 revolvers.

Add me to the list with the .22 Diamondback; the four inch I had appeared to have the chambers cut with a 1/4 drill by a hung over employee on Monday morning. While very nicely finished, it was a poor shooter. Took a loss and traded into the LGS for something else.

Wow! Well I can assure you the new Colts are pretty well finished, at least the Pythons.  I had mine about to clean and lube and the workmanship on the inside was nice. Didn't see any stamped out parts either. Who knows, maybe CZ is getting on their ass.  You know they have a new building?

I have a new Cimarron (Uberti) Model P Jr. 1873 on the way in 32-20 / 32 H&R Mag. It's got two cylinders. Should be fun to shoot!

Glad to know I wasn't wrong about my Diamond Back.  I have kind of wished I had it back as it's a collectors item now. Little news for those who might not know.  The reason Colt hasn't brought back a new Diamond Back is because they don't own the trademake anymore, thus the reason for the Cobra 22 lr.

I once owned a Taurus 22 revolver. Pistol was very affordable at the time, but you got what you paid for. The stamp checkered Brazilian hard wood was the ugliest, cylinder alignment was not visually perfect and accuracy was not great. I sold it.
