MAYBE THIS WILL AID YOUR SHOOTING EYE ALSO

During my eight- month struggle with orthopedic problems, I also lost vision in my right eye. I was going to see the eye doctor about every 4 days, and at time I was in a wheelchair, and it was about 75 miles each way.

When it got close to my surgery time,I quit my eye appointments and continued the prescribed medication. After I have gotten to where I can hobble around, I went back to the eye doctor Monday. My vision has returned a little but the doctor said it wasn't going to get any better. My loss of vision was due to two ulcers in my right eye caused by inflammation, or that is what they tell me. The ulcers that I did have are now scar tissue and hence the vision will not get any better. He informed me of a new development in medical technology.  They have developed a new hard contact lense that is bigger than normal contacts, and will cover the scared areas. He says my vision will be as good as my left eye, which is better than 20--20 They are scheduling me for an appointment to make measurements for my particular eye. I'm anxious to see how it works out.

If you are having vision trouble with your shooting eye, you might want to check into this. I"m 79, and have always took pride in being able to stand up on my hind legs and shoot open sights like the man I used to be.  I don't know is this will solve every one's vision problems, or only in cases like my scaring.

I can certainly say, that I am in a much better frame of mind, knowing there is a good possibility of getting my vision back.

I was left- handed when I was little, and then in the first grade they changed me to my right. At that time, they didn't think it was normal to be let-handed. While my eye has been so bad, I've been setting around with a BB gun and learning to shoot left- handed. Now, maybe I won't have to do that. I'm on pins and needles waiting to see how this works out. If anyone has this type of problem, they might want to check into it.

When you get tested for a prescription, keep in mind just how far from the eye you want it to be crystal clear. Tell the doctor where this range needs to be. This is very important to you being able to enjoy yourself and see your sights.... both rifle and pistol. Having had cataract surgery in both eyes due to some medicines they gave me when I was in a coma in intensive care, these things are very important.

Hello 45 2.1,

I also, had cataract surgery, that is where my great vision came from. Thanks for the information, I'll inquire about that when they start my measurements. They are checking with my two insurances to see it they will pay, if not, I'll pay out of my pocket, I've got to get my vision back, so that I can shoot again.

I also got a hard time for writing with my left hand.  That's why I write left handed and do everything else with my right.

Hello jeffinNZ

They did a pretty good left to right conversion on me, although I can still write with my left or right hand, they both horrible. All through my life when I started to perform an act that was new to me, it seemed more natural to use my left hand. An example of that is when the frisbees hit in the 60's ,I could throw one much farther and with more accuracy, with my left than with my right hand. Who knows, I was a college baseball pitcher, and if they hadn't taken my left hand away from me, I might have been a major leager.

Mashburn you need your vision for a lot more things then shooting. I too have eye/vision problems.  If I were to get a cataract surgery I sure as hell wouldn't get it just see the sights on my guns.  Think about driving sir, that's very important to have good vision to drive safetly. That's just one out of a hundred things you need good vision for.  Whatever they set your vision distance for with the new len/lens for your eye/eyes you still can get prescription glasses to cover the lacking part of your vision with the cataract replacement lenses. I know many many people that got cataract surgery and not a one of them got the lenses set for one particular very close focus such as sights on a gun.  If the Lord were to grant me a wish I would wish for perfect 20/20 vision not be the top target shooter in the world. Be very careful who you listen to about your eyes. You ask your eye doctor if you should get your lenses set to JUST be able to see the sights on your guns and see what he says.

I like wearing glasses! So got my right eye set for computer screen and left eye for distance. Vari-Lux lenses take care of everything. Without, or just shooting glasses, can shoot pistol just fine. My brain compensated for just about anything within a couple of weeks. Shifting focus from left to right and back again.  FWIW

Hello 1886,

I don't know where, some people, got the idea that I was going to have my vision set for just firing a rifle. I had better than 20-20  vision before my eye damage. It worked fine after cataract surgery, and my doctor tells me it will be just like before. Yess, I want to be able to shoot again, but mostly, I want to get my vision back, just like it was before the scaring. I could shoot very well and see at all distances before the injury and that is what they are going to give me again.

Thanks for your concern,

Mashburn

Mashburn you don't know how relieved I am to hear you post that you weren't mainly concerned for vision for just shooting, but to get your vision back like it was before.  I wish you all the luck on this.
