A friend has offered to sell me some Leverrevolution at a reasonable price. I don’t really need rifle powder right now but I hate to pass up a good deal.

Is anyone using this powder for cast in 30-30, 30-06 (180 - 220 gr.), or 35 Rem (200 gr)?

Bosch ....

The definitive work on LeveRevolution was by Larry Gibson.

That said, yes I have burned a few pounds of LVR (and other stuff)  in .30-30.

My three powders for cast bullets (175 gn HPGC) in .30-30 are Varget, 748 and LVR.

Using a Savage 99 with 24" barrel, 12" twist, scope, and 32 gns LVR, I was getting 2200 fps and average 2.75" groups at 100 m (2.5 mins). At 34 gns I was getting 2300 fps and about 3.5" groups. At 200 m both loads shot a little under 6" (only one five shot group each). These loads are a couple of grains lighter than Larry was using for #311041 at similar velocity. My bullets are sized down #U321297HP and have longer bearing surface, plus I seat deeper (COL 2.500") to humour the Savage magazine. My advice would be to go on velocity rather than following my charge weights to the letter (or number).

Lighter loads of LVR see the velocity spread go out and the groups open up. Larry points out that LVR burns best at 100% loading density.

I have also used 33 gns 748 with this same bullet for about 2200 fps and similar or better accuracy to LVR. Another grain of 748 gets an extra 50 fps without loss of accuracy, but the first signs of leading are appearing.

LVR is good in that even at top velocity there is no leading. This is with 16 BHN bullets. I have also used it with the same bullet in solid form and soft alloy (192 gns). The one group I shot (5 shots, 31 gns LVR = 2100 fps) was still only 2.75" at 100 m. I suspect that the slow buildup to peak pressure that Larry notes is beneficial to accuracy of softer bullets.

To complete the picture, 32 gns Varget/2208 (8 groups) averaged 2170 fps and averaged 1.98" for 5 shots at 100 m. This however was on a range with walls each side which largely eliminated the wind problem. Increase to 33 gns got another 70 fps, an extra half inch on the group average, and some leading.

All of this is with a rifle that is a regular 1.5 moa performer with Sierra 150s and 170s with 748.

Conclusion on LVR: Good powder for .30-30 especially at full velocity for cast, and even more so for jacketed, but not a good choice for reduced velocity. Good reports on .35 Rem also, but can't help on .30-06.

LeveRevolution is excellent, as Wilderness points out, in the 30-30 and the 35 Remington with cast bullets particularly if the barrels have a 12" or slower twist. In both cartridges maximum velocities with accuracy given the barrel twists can be achieved with much less pressure than using "conventional" powders.

However, in larger volume cases such as the 30-06 with 10" barrel twists LeveRevolution does not burn efficiently nor as it should.

Does anybody have knowledge or experience with LeveRevolution powder in a 9.3x57? My rifle is a Husky 46.
