Anyone have experience with a Type 38 Japanese Rifle in 6.5X50? I recently acquired one that a previous owner had started to sporterize. Barrel cut to 19" and crowned, Timney trigger, bolt turned down and they did a nice job of polishing and rebluing. I'm in the process of mounting a scope. I slugged the bore which is .268. Anyone know of a good mold? Also there doesn't seem to be a recoil lug per se, just a cylinder that fits (maybe) into a mating hole inleted into the stock. Anyone glass bedded anything like it? All help appreciated.

beagle6 ... i have bedded a couple rifles with a cylindrical recoil lug ... worked fine .... i did bed the cylinder in devcon though ... relieved the devcon bed under the cylinder ... the action screws were pillared with aluminum pillars .
i might mention that one was a ruger77 hornet ... out of the box they have no real recoil bedding features... i sunk a cylinder into the barrel just ahead of the receiver and dropped the groups from 4 inches to under an inch .

Checking pictures on the web, is there any chance you have the "Training Rifle" version? The pictures all show a distinctive recoil lug. The training rifles were built to train civilians and are not safe to fire with ammunition.
The other possibility is the builder was planning on using the modern recoil lug that is a separate part of the assembly.

I did the same with several Savage Model 23 Sporters. Since it was designed as a .22 RF, the recoil management is the one screw that holds the one piece barrel/action to the stock. Pillar bedding and a groove cut into the barrel make a big difference.
