How many different rifles are used in the honor guard?  I see M14, Springfield and M1.

M-14 and M-1 are common among the more high visibility units (often de-mil parade rifles).  I've seen quite a few M-16s in active duty units.  American Legion and VFW, especially the smaller posts, still have the 03 (many of which haven't been cleaned for decades).  I think there are still a few with Civil War era Springfields.  Lucky One could tell us more.

Another question could be how many rifles in the ceremony were operational and loaded with active rounds?

Nice to see walnut and blued (?) steel on display for important occasions.

I always think the Guard at Buckingham Palace look ridiculous with those black plastic things - Martini .450 or SMLE (with Cordite ammo on hand for either) would be much more in keeping with the old uniforms.

A lot of the Oz ceremonial occasions see the SLR come out in preference to the Steyr.

Normally none.

Saw a TV show years ago about the "Old Guard" Infantry Regiment stationed in DC. All the rifles had the sights and sharp edges ground off and bolts welded shut. Bayonet edges were ground flat, welded to the lug and then metal work chromed.

Decades ago, before Washington DC was sealed off from American citizens, one could see the Old Guard (3rd herd) perform their Torchlight Tattoo at the Jefferson Memorial in the evening. It was a memorial show and hopefully they still do it. It was a free show and one to see - for sure. The Fife and Drum Corps performed too as they are part of the Old Guard.

Since John has called me out; yes, but there were also 1853 Enfield as well as 1863s and maybe a ratty Austrian Lorenz. It was a dedication for the Brookings SD veterans memorial and a Civil War unit was what they got. Plus a 12 pound mountain howitzer which really wakes up the neighborhood.
