I find it amazing that I am fortunate enough to have access to the entire set of books entitled War of the Rebellion: Records of the Union and Confederate Armies published in 1883. These are originals, actually published in 1883. To hold one of these volumes, 141 years old, sends shivers up my spine. To read through these volumes would take a long long time. I love to savor the written word, in use at the time, and to absorb the vocabulary used by educated men (officers) of the era. Their prose is unique to that era and their use of crafted paragraphs is refreshing and well - informative.

Hopefully there will not be another set of these that our Great Great Grandchildren will read.

How fortunate you are to have access to such books. As a fellow book lover, I envy your ability to touch and read those volumes.

Reading the reports regarding the action and logistical issues here near me in Averasboro and Bentonville NC, the last two battles of the "War of the Rebellion" in March of 1865, is amazing. When visiting the battlefield sites, I am armed with detailed information drawn directly from the combatant after-action reports.

Simply amazing to read about it and then go see the locations. One can almost hear the cannon fire and musketry.
