I ran 95 rounds thru my Super Blackhawk Hunter today.

All were 429421 coated with Eastwood mirror red.

Three loads:

   7 gr HP38

   10 gr Unique

   23 gr 296

Best accuracy was the Unique load, with 296 a close second.

When I cleaned the gun this evening, there was no leading.

That coating stuff really is pretty neat. I've taken to standing my bullets up and get a really good coat.

I've been up to the pulpit preaching the advantages of powder coating for several years now. Glad to see a few converts. Especially for handgun rounds it's a hard process to beat. Gp

Hello,

I'm in the process of putting some pictures of targets that I shot, with my .17 Cal. Mashburn rifle, with gc'd powder coated bullets. They will knock your socks off. They would already be posted except for the last three weeks I've been driving, all over the country watching my Grand daughter play softball, about 4 days a week, and this week is going to be even more busy.

David:

The grand daughter is way more important. My first is due in August. Let the guns sit in the corner and rust.

I used to get 1 1/2" groups in my SBH with that same bullets over 9.5grs of Unique.

It'll be a treat to try PC, but low on my Laundry list of Guns and PC'd bullets. Got at least 1,000 #429421 already to go; sized and lubed.

All my revolver loads are Plain base, PCed, shot as cast. They just work great and the lack of smoke is a big plus.

I just got a pound of powder and some plastic bb's in the mail yesterday from a guy over on Cast Boolits.

Nothing like a new can of worms in your life.

Do some studying on how folks are applying powder, try some different methods, and find something that works for you. I have been powdering all of my handgun bullets, but haven't tried any rifle yet.  I don't use BB's, just pre-heat to about 140 deg., shake in a #5 food storage container and bake.

Good luck!

I did it!
Thanks guys. Only took me two tries. First time I set the toaster oven to 400 and put the bullets on the top rack. They melted. Using a thermometer I got the temp down to 400 and put the tray on the bottom rack. Eureka!
It's a Lee 105 grain RN 380 bullet. I sized them to .358 and loaded them in 357 cases over 7.5 grains of Unique.
Going to try them tomorrow out of my 10" Contender.
Thanks again for breathing new life into my hobby.
(My wife laughed at them.)

Good luck on the range, and keep us posted on your results. Don’t be surprised if you have to do a bit of load tweeking.

My wife called my coated bullets "pretty". I told her that colorful bullets are "manly". Lipstick bullets. I like them!

I use red powder and lipstick has become the standard name with my wife.

A round nosed bullet in a long, straight case looks very much like what momma used to keep in her purse.

Those short, round bullets didn't shoot very well out of my 357 Contender.  I PC'd some 105g SWC's last night.  Going to try them with some 4759 instead of Unique.

Can't you just imaging a cop with pink or chartreuse bullets in belt cartridge loops? yell
