Afternoon, been a while since I’ve been here. I have a rifle chambered in 460 Guns and Ammo. I also have an RCBS mould in.45-533-RN and lots of lead. I’m desperately trying to find where to start with this combination. I’m currently using 90 grains of 4064 and a Hornady .458 500 grain DGX. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love this gun but there is so little information about loads. Thank you.

You are dredging up the bottom of an old man's memory. IIRC, this was a wildcat on the 404 Jeffery case necked up to .458". I have not seen load data in 40+ years for this round.

I shot a .458 Watt's Magnum for a few years and found that 32 grains of SR 4759 was a good cast bullet load for 500 grain bullets. If I were you, I'd look at IMR or H4895 data in 458 Lott, a smaller case, and start with the minimum load.

Thank you very much. Wasn’t the “Watts” round out of Mr.Watts out of Yakima? For now I’ll start with the Lott load and work up from there.

Mr. Watt was a big farmer out of Pasco who had Anderson in Yakima make the first rifle in about 1948. Jack O'Conner took a Mauser in that caliber to Africa in the early 1950's. Mine was on 300 H&H, with a Bushmuller barrel, on a Remington 721 action. The Lott is the SAMMI certified cartridge of the same thing.

Ok, it’s slowly coming back to me. I love the 460 and I’ve had it for about 15 years. I have so much lead and I enjoy casting so I figured it would be a good way to spend this winter.

Finally got to where I could post - may be past relevant date. Pierre van der Walt’s Handloading for Dangerous Game has quite a bit of data for the 460 G&A…wanted one but bench sessions with a 458 Lott cured me. Good shooting. JB

Never too late for a reply and I appreciate any help I can get. I’ll try to find the information and hopefully find a copy of the book. Thank you for your help!
