Greetings and thanks in advance. I’m going to be in possession of a Colt National Match Gold Cup . Any thoughts on loads? I have 3 different 215g moulds but I’m open to advice.

H&G 68 with 4 grains of Bullseye is an old standby. Same charge with WST also very good.

W-W 231 works very well.
I used it several decades ago when Bullseye was so dirty to shoot.

I shot the same 3.5 grain weight until I added a scope, then went from 3.5 grains to 3.7 grains.

my 215gr works with 3.5 gr 700X but groups better with 4.0gr of same.

Hang on to that Gold Cup. Nothing shoots any better. I like 700-X.

I'm in the 4.0gr. Bullseye camp with both the H&G 68 and H&G 130. My Gold Cup can't make its mind up which one it likes best, so I mostly cast 185's for it anymore. At least that way I get a free bullet with every 12 I cast, with them weighing 15 grains less than the 200's.

Always used between 5 and 6 grains of 231 myself. Standard was 6.0gr of 231 with the H&G 68 bullet.

6 grains of 231 is a full Charge load!
For target with 185-200 WC 4.0-4.5 is the working range based upon reliable function.

Make sure you know what recoil spring is in the gun! Shooters using very light loads used lighter springs to get reliable function. Heavier loads will beat up the pistol and cause higher recoil. Wolfe has a selection of springs available.
I found the H&G 68 design to be best. every mold maker has a clone of it. The popularity speaks for itself.

IIRC standard government recoil spring was 16 pounds. Gold Cup spring 14 pounds. Over 18 pounds requires other mods to pistol to prevent hammer bounce.

For many years I've used standard 16 lb. spring weight for all loads in all 1911s including two Clark-accurized Gold Cups. All of my 1911s are Colt except a for a Les Baer and I use the standard 16 lb. spring in that one, too. Most of the loads I shoot are target loads, #68 200 grain and 3.5 grs. or 3.7 grs. Bullseye. These loads cycle the actions of all my guns just fine.
