picked this 1894 Mfg. Antique Mosin recently .Bore is dark but  "shootable" and counterbored due to cleaning rod wear. Its a Finn "SA" marked gun with the "D" mark throated for their longer  ojive bullet and has the front sight replaced by them as well.Gun has no import marks and it quite well used.I really like this thing.

I took it out today with a light 32WCF velocity load just to hear it go bang.Accuracy OK so far but never gonna be a match rifle. The 10 shot group at 50 I had two shots , go high and left out of nowhere .who knows my eyes or the bad bore  showing it's evil self.

Load was Ideal 32-30 Remington design # 31356 & 6g Trailboss.

I only loaded 20.I'm going to load more of the same load tomorrow and another load with the old reliable NEI 72 Harris , bullet gas checked with my favorite 4759 load

I have an advantage, the barrel is so long , it's closer to the target....

That 31356 is a wonderful  little bullet. But it's a single cavity that is kind of abused and finicky.I noticed that Accurate makes a copy and im tempted to order one.

Have you taken the action out of the stock? There should be a year stamp on the rear tang on the bottom. These things were swapped around in so many different arsenals who knows what is the original parts are anymore.

I have a 91-39 that has 61 stamps everywhere, it looks like it too! It looks like it was drug from Russa through WW2, through China on down to Vietnam and back. The bore is rough to say the least, but it still shoots decent cast bullet for a few rounds before serious leading starts to build up. Jacket bullets will hold a 2-inch group most of the time. It's a "ditch gun to say the least and I did rescue it from a local pond but that's another story.

I had a Finn M28 with bad bore and it took about 100 shots with lubed cast bullets until it settled down.It wasn't a match winner, but it kept a good point of impact.

I just sold a Finn m39 not to long ago.

Was and olympic training rifle.

Barrel was changed in 1976.  Beautiful bore. Great shooter. used the 314299 bullet. I could not see the mil sights anymore.

Miss the rifle.

it did "ok"  today at 50 and 100 yards. it was 100 degrees and the pencil barrel was HOT after just a few shots. It's far from match winner but acceptable for a 130 year old gun that's passed through many countries.
