it sums up very well what I have learned when I sorted out the lead ww from steel and zinc.I got 43#s form a 150#s bucket.

No more WW for me;too time consuming.

Great article! Here in Illinois (pronounced ill-annoy) the powers that be banned lead wheel weights in 2011 and finding usable wheel weights is tough. I still occasionally sort through small batches that I get for free, but once the ingots I have are gone I'll probably just use range scrap for my plinking needs.

i stocked up a few years ago you can still get them here in australia but you have to sort them

I gave up on WW also because of the less lead alloy that is in the pail.If it is given to me I take it .Also for it say to smelt on lead heat I smelt on batch at a time and the zinc will float and then skim off the dirt and pour in ingots and then start over the next batch.I do not add more to the mix. I use wood to do  my smelting it is low heat and will  not miss the odd alloy also. It works for me.
