Teslong borescope

Against my better judgement being that I generally subscribe to "ignorance is bliss" when considering bore condition, I bought a Teslong borescope.  

Basically my Zastava Hornet threw a massive tantrum with cast loads that used to shoot stupidly well.  I decide a closer look was required.  Then I look down a few other barrels.  Found some interesting viewing.

Lead in the leade of the .310 Cadet:

All in all I am pretty happy with my investment.  Would recommend this little device.  Just plugs into the laptop and away you go.

A huge thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. For both the detail and the humor.

Sometimes I get so intensely focused on things that I don’t come up for air to look around. I’ve had a Hawkeye since the late 90’s and since I started shooting cast nearly exclusively about two years ago, I find that I use it probably once a week.

I’ll get the flexible one and add the WiFi accessory to be able to communicate with my I Phone. Mostly my interest is in the freebore, leade and the crown, muzzle.

i have read several times that if you are happy with the way your gun shoots DO NOT buy this device. causes lots of unnecessary stress. regardless i bought one. they are right. i rarely use it. causes me to try and fix what ain't broke. fun to mess with though.

One thing to not do with these scopes. Do not wind the camera cable in a tight circle to save space. While easier to carry at a LGS or gun show it can cause permanent damage to the camera. Please do not ask how i know.

BTW,

The Teslong can also be used to look at your Teeth, to see what the dentist is telling

you needs to be fixed

I bought the one with the rigid rod for rifles with the little rectangular wi-fi adapter. 

It connects to my phone in seconds and makes it very easy to snap photo's on the phone, or record video of it running down the bore or video of it revolving 360 degrees in place.

My very old one (not Teslong) connected to my computer, which made it more difficult to have the rifle supported safely in a rest on my workbench.  It also had a flexible shaft which was more difficult to run down the bore on longer barreled rifles.

I agree with the previous comment in this thread, the mirror set is very nice to have too.

These first showed up in a post on Accurate Shooter forum a couple years ago and I snagged one of the originals, before the rigid versions were available, soon as I saw the image quality.

They are excellent for monitoring bore condition and diagnostic inspection when something suddenly changes without explanation and can be used for internal brass inspections too.

There is a mirror subset available ($20) for different calibers and the tiny little lock ring behind the mirror allows you to focus for the best image then lock in place. wink

Got one myself a couple of months back..was interested in looking at possible throat erosion. All I've learned so far is I don't really know what I'm seeing..need to find some genuine "bad" examples to compare. Jeff your photos of lead deposits are very helpful. Maybe others could post examples of other stuff, like pitting for instance.

Inspired to get a Teslong borescope by the discussion, thank you.  Very impressive.  A photo (micrograph?) of the Rice .40 barrel for my flintlock in progress.  Looks like I need to get busy and finish it.

They are great pieces of equipment for a little cost. I have been using two for about 4-5 years now. A rigid one for at the bench and a flexible one to use at the range. The flexible one is used with my IPhone and works fantastic.

Awile back in a F.S. issue i think it was David Reiss? who did a review of the teslong scope. I purchased one soon after. It connects to my laptop and cell phone. It has come in quite handy. It has helped bring down the price on a couple purchases at gun shows and shops. It also kept me from making a possible bad purchase. One thing to keep in mind. I have an old 25-06 Ruger no. 1 whose first 2 and 1/2 inches of bore look like alligator hide. That rifle still shoots fine. My gunsmith says these scopes have really increased his rebarreling work. I bought the one with the flexible cable instead of the ridgid one making it easy to carry at a store or show. The scope is a handy tool that takes the guess work out of is my bore really clean?
