Been thinking about getting a 4 inch 44 revolver to match my Henry rifle. Plus for 44 special. What's your thoughts on the Taurus revolvers.. thank you and have a very merry Christmas and may the Lord be with you

I had the 5 shooter double action from Taurus for a couple years. It was a good shooter . Mine had the groove for a rear sight. It wasn’t light but balanced well for me .

They certainly are not the quality of a S&W, but are good guns. The issue with the Taurus is that the trigger pulls can be heavy and are not as easily smoothed up as a S&W. I am going to send you a PM.

I owned one of those and wish I still did.  Smaller and lighter than a magnum and the 44 Special is enjoyable to shoot.

I have a Taurus Model 627 Tracker in 357 Magnum and I love it. You can say it's not a S&W, but it's not advertised as a S&W. I like the balance, sights and action. Actually the single action trigger pull is pretty light. IMHO it is well worth the purchase price.

Just a suggestion and not the basis for an argument...I would certainly consider resale value before purchase and perhaps spend  a little more and buy a Smith & Wesson. The Taurus may be a good gun, but the S&W should be a step up and will retain value better. It will likely be more desirable and easier to sell or trade on the used market.

You are probably looking at what is available to you at the moment. I would wait and buy the Ruger Blackhawk 44 special.

I bought a 605, 357 magnum about 12 years ago.  It has been my shooter/practice gun and I've shot it quite a bit.  About a year ago the action got very balky.  I found out it had developed a burr on the tip of a plunger that activated the cylinder stop.

Seems like it shouldn't have done that.  I saw a guy at the range had a brand new 44 and it didn't work.

I would only buy one if I could check out the action first.  My next cheapo revolver will be a Charter Arms.

I bought a used Taurus 441 in 44 special to see what kind of quality you could expect from Taurus revolvers.  Someone before me had done some action work on it, as it is smooth as butter.  Easily one of the best actions on any of my revolvers.

I don't have any complaints, other than the cylinder throats were .433.  But then again, so was my Ruger GP100 in 44 special that I purchased new.  So I am not sure that would be a fair criticism of the Taurus.

To go with a Henry rifle though, I would purchase a Ruger flattop Blackhawk.  I love mine.  I even bought a Borchardt Rifle Company 44-40 cylinder for it, which turned out to shoot more accurately than any of my other 44-40 chambered single actions.  I can also vouch for the 44 special Vaqueros, at least the Vaquero Sheriff model that I own.  Lovely and fast handling gun.

I've dropped my guard and bought a couple Tauruses over the years. I do not have them now. 'Nuff said.

I'm more into hand guns I think. Might even trade off my Henry bb..hand guns are more easy to carry around in thick brush. Even when your on your hands..

Only one I ever owned was a 94, clone of the S&W 34. Except it was a 9 shot. Ejection was next to impossible.  Taurus couldn't fix the problem.  So it went down the road. Friend had similar problems with a model 85.

Let me add this. My experience in working on guns for 40+ years now, Smiths and Rugers are repaired for two reasons, long hard use and need a tune-up or misused and abused specimens.

Tauruses come in for repair regularly because of parts breakage or premature wear.

I've got one of them - trigger job makes it THE SMOOTHEST double action ever!  44 Spcl.  Great for serious social purposes.
