Kephart, while a drunk, was the intellectual of the transition from black powder to smokeless powder. Highly educated but able to speak to the common man, he lead the way to the next generation of reloaders.

Kephart was an interesting guy. There is still a basic woodmans knife named after him being made. That era sure brought out the wildcatters.

His books, some in continuous print for over a hundred years, are full of real life information. In the real world, knives are used for skinning pelts or preparing food. His is still one of the best. The only one close is the French fur trade "perch belly" blade.
