This is an interesting read

For those who like to see the numbers it is easy to understand why a short barrel is louder.

Very interesting Jeff. I went to Utah state and they had a ballistics lab also. That was in the late '60s

Very interesting actually and nicely done. There seems to be a harmonic showing in the curves at 8" and 17" where pressure bumps above the trend line. Is this proof that pressure waves exist within the barrel? The most interesting to me was the barrel length vs velocity chart where there were two bumps in the curve. One at 11" and again at 20". I have to agree with the conclusion that the 20" barrel produced the highest velocity with that ammo. I believe the M855 is the 62 grain green tip penetrator bullet with a steel tip. Not exactly cast bullet stuff but worthwhile reading for anyone interested in ballistics. Thanks for posting it. Squid Boy
