Bob, Lyman used to make a 550gr. bullet in 45 caliber. My mold casts about .461 or 2 inches. I size them down to 460 in my honed out die for use in my .458 Win. Three rounds will shoot into close to an inch with 68gr. of IMR 3031 and a mag. primer. I kinda remember it going near 1900 fps +- . It was a long time ago and I could only stand to shoot three of these at a time from the bench for group. They did march to the rear smartly.
The bullet is gas checked with almost straight sides leading to a bore riding section that also is pretty straight sided, and culminates in a big flat point. I always wanted to go to Alaska and use it on something big and possibly nasty. But alas it has never come to pass, and I doubt if I could do it now. The alloy I used was home made Lyman #2, but water dropped wheel weights did just as well. Penetration with that thing was phenomenal.
