I tend to be attracted to the road less traveled and Martini Henrys kind of fit the bill in the US. I have 2 Mk IIs and have wanted to get them going but brass has been so expensive. So I ordered some made up by Xring Services aka Martyn Robinson. They arrived today and he did a superb job. He offers a number of items for other obscure firearms and he reasonably priced too. I have fiddled with making this cartridge and he does it really well for that price. He only works off email and there is no website but he is very accommodating and I am sure he'll be glad to help you. Time now to go burn some Goex.

Thanks Arnie. That's the route to take if you're willing to do that. I've been using that brass for my 577 Snider and it's relatively easy to cut them down, run through the Lee dies, fire form and you're off and running. Then there's the 577/450. My experience was cut, anneal, form as much as it would take, anneal, form again and again until you got one right or wrinkled too much and turned into a Snider case. It's a lot of work that too often went wrong. After making 43 Beaumont, 41 Swiss, 43 Mauser etc. I came to appreciate what Martyn was doing. For the hours saved, I was willing to pay for some nice cases and get to shooting instead. Thanks again and I know someone may be happy to use that info for their own educational experience.

There is/or was an indirect source for making up the 577/450 cases : Magtech all brass shotgun shells,

made for large pistol primers.   The 24 gauge  was the size that can be made up into the 577/450.

Lee engineering makes (or made) loading dies , so a person can form the 577/450 from the brass shotshells.

MidwayUSA has. the Magtech brass hulls  available now for $34.99/25.

They are made for Magtech by CBC in South America

This is a case of altered outlooks where 50 cases is the right amount and not a couple of hundred like common calibers. But then, with 85 grs of 2f and a 500 grain bullet, 50 rounds may be enough for a day. Kind of a contrast from the black rifle project I also have going at the moment.

Thanks. Yup, very spendy stuff, but great fun. Gotta get a red jacket to go with.

Sorry, long day yesterday. [email protected] should get you to Martyn. He has a number of other things for odd big bores and the Snider too so you check it out. This is a warning, Martini brass has been expensive for a long time. As in 6 dollars plus so half that seems like a more reasonable deal I can live with. Not as cheap as my 45-90 but right in line with Buffalo Arms making custom ammo. Having a love of history and an overactive imagination is either a blessing or a curse. It can lead to a lot rabbit holes to look down. More on the Martini as it happens because you never know when you'll be up to your neck in Zulus.

now my bucket list is missing a Martini Henry ...

so please keep us up on your MH adventures ...

a great thing about this group is that I can at least fun-tasize working that magnificent action and firing off those bizarre big rounds ...  hey, a friend sent me one of his fired cases ... I keep it by my lathe so I can at least pretend I am facing a charging water buffalo while making chips ... ( buffalo chips ? ... Sorry ... ) ...

ken

or ... hey, I do have a baby Martini ( Ithaca 49 ... actually Ted Williams ....in 22LR ) ... i am ready to stare down a charging ground squirrel ...  or quickly change in a Hollow Point if it is an Attack Rabbit ...
