Anybody tried it in .308 and/or 30-06?I got an opportunity to get one at a good price but I remember reading somewhere that pointed bullets in .30 cal are not accurate.

The problem is finding one that fits your throat. That bullet works fine in my Savage 99 30/30. It is not even good in my 1903 Springfields. FWIW

There are many myths concerning a bullet's accuracy. With a good barrel, chamber, consistent alloy, you can get any mold to shoot reasonably. The pointed bullets are said to be accurate under 1200 fps and only good for gallery practice. This is not true, only an old wive's tale.

My uncle, his son and daughter shot high power competition for years using cast bullets at 200 and 300 yards, jacketed at 600. The bullet was the Lyman 311413, rumored to be accurate only for gallery practice under 1200 fps. Allowed two sighters at 600 yards, he figured these shots would clean any leading out. His load was used Linotype, sized .310 for custom .30-'06 built on a Mauser 98 action. My uncle had many medals lining his reloading room wall and both his son and daughter were Illinois State Junior champions. Success! .

I have had many 5 round groups at 100 yards out of a 40x that could be covered by a nickel.  The only problem for me is the gas check shank is oversize for the crimp on gc, so all gc's must be pressed on separately.  All my .30 cal rifles work well with the 311332, my Krag shoots best with it.

As to pointed bullets I think they were referring to the 311329 or 311356. The shoot OK with lighter loads.

I have a 311334 that everyone says is undersize.  That story goes back probably 50 to 60 years ago.  Lyman had to have cut a new cherry after the story came out.  Mine casts .311/.312 on the driving bands and .301/.302 on the nose section and is almost as accurate as the 311332.
