Setting here at 30 in the morning and can't sleep so I got to thinking how the Chinese Virus is affecting you members who are scattered all over the world. In our little rural community we had covid  cases since it began but not to an extreme. That has changed now. It's rampant. The Indian Hospital across the highway about a mile stays busy life flighting covid patients to other hospitals because they have no room. I was exposed back in mid December so my family physician put me on a prescription of Plaquenil. Evidently the medication warded the virus off because I didn't come down with it. My son and Grand daughter both had it and my daughter-in-law and her 88 year old mother, who lives with them, didn't develop the disease. The two women's blood type is O Positive .My doctor said that he had only 4 covid cases in people with O Positive blood.

My neighbors, who live about 200 yards up behind me were exposed on Christmas Eve and he died yesterday and she may have died today, I haven't heard as of now. They were younger than my wife and I .My wife and I went and received our first covid shot today and will receive the second one in 28 days.  I can't believe that down here in Hill Billyville that we got our vacinations  before other areas. It wasn't supposed to be available until next week but my wife happened to have a friend in the right place. I'm also glad that I live in a state that doesn't think that diversity is the main thing to as to who gets the vaccine.  Oklahoma started with first responders-teachers and senior citizens and are doing an excellent job of getting the vaccine out to where it needs to go. I hope that you all are doing well and avoid this awful stuff.

Good public announcement David.  Glad to hear that you got the vaccinations. There are still folks about who think Covid 19 is a hoax or just another typical flue -- partly because they don't happen to know anybody who has had it. Your post should help.

Two in my family have had it.  Both survived but my brother in law, who not too long was competing in iron man competitions, had it about ten months ago was left with some nasty lingering damage. It does some pretty nasty things to some of the survivors.

I don’t post here anymore regarding shooting but reading this thread I thought my experience might help someone.

Family of four, all Covid survivors. I’m 50 and otherwise healthy. I had walking pneumonia for 2 months prior to infection. 12/16 fell sick on job with 105 temp. Confined until 12/28 when I was able to testify that no fever of any kind existed and my body temp was stable. Covid took me to near death. My family suffered but far less. We had an 80 year old arrive on 12/16 and we were able to keep her from harm until 12/28 and got her profilactic treatment in the meantime to fend off virus.

Covid (as I have experienced, heard from my sons and wife and many many others) takes you mind to places it shouldn’t go. Death is welcome at the peak of severity. Worse yet is the persistent insomnia for days and weeks on end during and AFTER the disease. During the insomnia your nervous system acts out and you feel as though you have an out of body experience. The psychological disturbances are grave. All the while you writhe in severe organ pain from the high temps and blood issues. Breathing is nearly impossible. Again, the psychological aspect of the infection and it’s course is beyond words. I simply can’t utter from my vocabulary how very terrible it is.

I scoffed at Covid. I have been near dead more times in my life than one should, meningitis was hours from killing me. I thought meningitis with bleeding sores down my throat and an inability to swallow with 105 fever for weeks on end was the end of the world. It was.... until now. My bout with Covid and Pneumonia set a new standard in my life. I actually have fear today of becoming infected again. I fear little in this life. I now fear Covid not because second infection is highly likely to kill me fast, but that before I expire I will suffer again, maybe to a greater extent- that suffering is what I can’t quantify in words.

As for treatment- I have insurance and chose a different path. This is what matters in my post- standard Covid treatment includes one thing, leave you to die at home without support.

You need not be on a ventilator or dialysis or be induced into a coma or be stuck in ICU. I reached out a a groups of doctors that throw caution to the wind and will prescribe a treatment plan that is proven and will keep you out of ER. Misery is inevitable with Covid confidence in surviving can be high as well.

It is well known that Vit D3 at 5000 iu daily with 3000 mg C and 50 mg Zinc reinforce Covid resistance and also bolster the respiratory system that is under attack.

Dexamethasone treats the bleeding lungs quickly. Albuterol and Budesonide nebulizer breathing treatments 6x daily will allow the lungs to heal and promote airflow. Hydroychloriquine is not approved ( I’ll likely face some censoring for even typing the name on the internet), but I reached out to doctors that WILL prescribe and they found pharmacies not in bed with the political position of this drug who would fill orders.

Azithromycin was used twice at legal limit dose to handle the pneumonia. COVID pneumonia, a new term, IS what will kill you. Virus aside, the pneumonia is bacterial and due to Covid virus damage, much more heinous than any pneumonia you may have ever faced in the past.

I will stay on HYDRO for one pill every 2 weeks for the better part of this year.

Once the protocols for treatment began, my existence transformed rapidly. The treatment works. It cost me less than $250 out of pocket for multiple MD visits. (Telemedicine) Meds made available on 2 hour notice. A hammer was slammed down on me to kill the infection and it was very effective. My copay for insurance typically exceeds that 250 value. I came out ahead. Where I live in Shelby county, we are overrun by infections in Frcember and January, I believe we were the hottest place in US for month of December.. Hundreds of people I know in the same period have fallen ill and many occupy beds in hospitals still today. I didn’t have to run up a massive medical bill. I should have reached out much much sooner than I did for medical care. My family received that care 10 days prior to me simply because I believed I could fight the virus with less support and they are precious enough to overwhelm with support . I was wrong, very wrong.

If you show symptoms, respond instantly. Have a plan to act on. Have quality MDs available who WILL stay politically incorrect and keep you alive and out of ICU.

Frontline MDs, a network of doctors nationwide is who treated me and I am in debt to them. They treated my family for pennies and a mother in law who was just in for Christmas (never got sick).

I don’t scoff anymore. If this was a designed virus, folks went to great lengths to engineer symptoms that humans have not yet experienced and those symptoms reach a level depravity that makes death a welcome event. No influenza or meningitis ever came close.

I don’t like masks, they are what begat my pneumonia infection prior to Covid. I am content to wear them today, change them frequently to prevent possible pneumonia again, (I work in the Midsouth!) and I walk now in some fear and with new trepidation knowing infection #2 is 4x as severe and much less than that multiplier is all it will take to kill me. If I die, well I die- that’s ok. The suffering I faced is what had left me in fear. That may seem way off base/ have a bout with COVID and it’s full force and live through it, that may lend some clarity to my above statements.

Mike

I had the Covid the last of Oct. I'm 74 and had it mild compared to what you did. I did experience some of the things you went through. I got a call from the county health nurse and told me I had been in contact with a person that came down with Covid the day after I had seen them. If they had not called and told me that, I would have just thought the next day I was having some allergy problems. When it hit me, it was the most excruciating pain throughout my body I had ever experienced. I had a fever for three days. What it does with your mind is bizarre to say the least. The Dr. started me on a regiment of antibotics immediately to fight off pneumonia; which was starting.  Took about a month to clear up the lung issue, but have no permanent damage. The mental thing is still going on, the Dr. referred to it as being similar to chemo brain.  There are people getting it the second time around in our area, once was definitely enough.  People scoff at wearing the mask, that it does no good. The one time I did not have it on is when I got exposed. My wife got it as well, totally different symptoms. Fortunately the Dr. told me I had no preexisting conditions and that I am in good health for my age. Have been on the vit D3, C and Zinc for many years.

Mike and Bob,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experiences.  Your vivid descriptions of suffering may save some doubter's life and shooters seem to have a lot of them.

Lots of conspiracy theories on youtube about the virus and vaccine. I know a couple of people that will refuse to take the shot?

Protect your self! I have one shooting buddy I haven't seen in six weeks because he didn't take it seriously and now has COVID-19. Spread through the whole extended family.

Norway is a small country with a population of about 5 million. We have a robust public health care system. If you get admitted to a hospital, there is no bill afterwards (no matter what treatment you needed).

When Covid struck, there was a rapid, decisive response from the government. We still live with social distancing and many limitations, but it works. Total number of Covid deaths still below 500 people since March last year.  But fewer people died last year from other causes (cardiac disease, other infectious diseases), so the total number of deceased last year was actually fewer than normal.

I work as a surgeon in a public hospital in Norway. The hospital is running at normal capacity, more or less. Very few admitted Covid cases now.

I would think twice about taking the shot. Not because I am opposed to vaccines but because those available for COVID have been rushed and not as robustly tested as previously.

I share Jeff's concern for the rushed way these vaccines were developed and tested. Two sisters-in-law are nurses and have chosen not to take the vaccine. I guess my wife and I will make that decision when the vaccine is offered to us.

After having the Covid, was visiting with my Dr. about getting the vaccine when it became available. Dr. advised she was not going to rush and get it, but was going to give it time and see if there are any effects that show up unexpectedly. Have a friend that cannot get the vaccine because of pre existing condition, seeing on the news in our State that certain conditions will keep people from getting the vaccine. Guess it all boils down to individual decision and what ones Dr. advises. It's all new unchartered territory this Covid situation. You all have a blessed day and New Year.

Oregon is under a mandate requiring masks inside all public places and stores.  We are fifth from the bottom of states for Covid 19 deaths per capita but still far from zero.  A correlation, or just lucky?

I virtually never see an unmasked face in the drug, grocery, or hardware stores.  However, I have visited the four locally owned gun stores within easy driving distance two or three times each in the last couple of months trying to catch my favorite powder on the shelves.  Each store has a state issued sign on the door that it is unlawful to enter without a mask.  In the the 8 or 10 trips I have never seen a mask ,on either customer or employee, other than my own.

This seems like a Pogo situation to me.  We sometimes worry about our sport dying out.  Our behavior may be one way to speed up the dying.

I am 83 years old.  The Moderna covid 19 vaccine became available to me and I checked with my doctor, a geriatric specialist, to make sure if it would be advisable for me to take the vaccine.  He advised me to take the vaccine.  My wife, 79, and I took the vaccine last week.  I have had no problems at all, my wife's shoulder at the spot of injection was sore for a day or two.

I have not heard of anyone having severe side effects from taking the shots.  People who are allergic to some medications or vehicles of vaccine should perhaps avoid the risk.

This version of the flu is nothing to mess with. I live in a highly populated area. The nurses and first responders i know here are all in aggreement on this. Many of them have had it with different outcomes. Why take the chance. I take vitamin D3, C, and zinc. I also drink elderberry syrup with tonic water which contains quinine. Ask the brits about the use of quinine in india. So far i have been lucky. Twice i have been in close contact with people who came down with covid. Was it the vitamins? The tonic?. I do not know. What i do know is when the vaccine becomes availible i will get it. Take care and stay safe.

I lost two very close friends, one a shooting buddy I was out shooting with 3 times a week.

My mom just came out of it.She's 88.Had a conversation with a third doctor this morning and all 3 told me the same. While Covid will not technically have killed her,it weakened her so much that they think she won't make it.She is now developping other diseases and they think pneumonia or kidney infection is what will take her away.

I used to make fun of it.My wife is an ex nurse and I thought she was exagerating the situation.I'm not doubting her anymore and take it very seriously.I haven't caught it but I've seen what it'll do!
