i apologize in advance for this question! i know its 101 to everyone but i'm just curious. years ago i read on another site about EDS RED lube and how it leaves pistol bbls shiny etc etc. i have seen the formula several times but for various reasons i don't have the time and i'm not a chemist. so no making my own. question is, is it sold commercially? i only shoot low to med loaded cast in 38, 44, 45 acp and colt, 45-70, 30 cal etc and lube/size in a heated star. thanks

If you prefer to not make your own, it is available through Brownell's and the link is below.

Homemade for 20 cents per oz.

Brownell's for $2.25 per oz. not counting shipping.

No chemistry involved in mixing the parts.  Everything can be picked up at a good hardware store.

Just sayin'

How about Ben's Red?  I've pushed quite a bit beyond that.

 Ben's Red bullet lube .

50% beeswax
30% Red, Tacky Lucas High Temp Grease
10% Johnson's Paste Wax
5% Dexron II or Dexron III Trans. Fluid
5% STP Oil Treatment

I thought Ed's Red was a solvent, not a lube.

It is a solvent, lube, wonder elixir! Maybe some have used it for bullet lube, but it was never intended as such.

i seem to remember in the making of it the recipe called for heating one part to melting, another to just when it started smoking, blending at a certain temp etc. probably a moot point by now, was too long ago when i read about it on CB

Felix Lube formula

2 Tablespoons mineral oil
1 Tablespoon castor oil
1 Tablespoon Ivory, or homemade soap (grated)
1 Tablespoon Lanolin
Beeswax - Piece approximately 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" X 1 "

Heat mineral (baby) oil until it starts to smoke.

Add castor oil, and stir continuously for 1/2 hour.

Sliver the soap, and stir into the mixture a little at a time, until melted.

Add the beeswax before the lanolin, and then when that is melted, reduce or remove the heat and add the lanolin, thus not running any risk of burning or scorching the lanolin.

1 teaspoon of carnuba wax can be added to give a shiny bore. This can be found on the seal of Makers Mark whiskey, or the red wax on cheese from the supermarket.

Once made, let cool. This can be remelted in a microwave, and poured into the lubrisizer.

Didn't know it was anything but a bore cleaner. But maybe someone has found a way to use it a bullet lube. Kinda runny for that application?

I use a lot of Tom Gray #24 bullet lube and it is red.

Ed's Red is a bore cleaner and preservative.  Not a bullet lube.

Ben's Red is bullet lube, but I've never used it.

I use 1:4  parts of ATF and beeswax for bullet lube when not using LLA.

Seems like everyone involved should start talking about the same item. Quite confusing to some who aren't aware of the good bore cleaner "Ed's Red."
