I just bid on and won FIVE sporting rifles at an auction. I bought them all to get the scope and mount off of one.

Two of them are well executed plain Jane Krag 30-40s, one scoped and one w/a receiver sight. Thy look great in the photos and if the bores check out they would be great cast bullet rifles.

More to follow. (page down to see them)

WW, thanks for the edit. My only experience with a sporter Krag was a bad bore. Shot jacketed fair, cast not at all. Corrosive and mecuric primers, bummer. The smoothness of the action was amazing though. We had a Krag shooter at our local CMP and his reload speed was right up there with everyone else. Great eye candy on your posts, very cool.

Other than the stocks are on the wrong barrel actions, let me know what you get.

Actually the barreled actions are in the wrong stocks.

But, given that any original Krag with a fine bore will start at $2000, these will be a bargain at less the 1/2 that.

I'll offer them for sale here 1st as finding a good Krag for cast is hard ----- like my 30-40 Niedner, stocked by Shelhammer.

WW, not a nice response to Rick's observation. Since you said it was true, and Rick did not say anything regarding the niceness or lack there of, the KYPHZ seems over the top. Hopefully the moderators will drop this thread.

Perhaps, just perhaps, I noted some sarcasm that was not intended, so I'll edit it.

Perhaps you two will approve of this one I bought from the same auction.

The last auction I was at had 5 Krag sporters. All had too rough for cast bores and sold for $3-400. Interested to know what you find on barrel condition. Love that No.1.

It'll be a few weeks till I get them. Be surprised if anyone spent all that effort on a bad bore gun.

Could always be a 35-40 !

I've got one Krag I'm working on that has extremely high quality wood. Excellent bore. Someday I will complete the stock work and glass bedding.....

The "ultimate" Krag !

"In the heyday of the Krag, Harry Pope designed a .22 caliber replacement barrel, manufactured by the J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co., converting the Krag into a rimfire rifle without any further alteration. The Pope barrel featured an eccentric chamber, positioning the rim of the .22 rimfire cartridge so it would be struck by the centerfire firing pin as well as being extracted by the existing Krag extractor. While not an issue item, many state National Guard units purchased the barrels and swapped them out at the unit level."

A real bargain in 2017 !

Shipping to a C&R would require that they be in original unaltered condition . These are not and would require being shipped to an FFL .
