Has anyone had any experience dissolving paraffin in acetone and then added it to liquid alox to make it less tacky? I know this maybe yesterday's news, but I just woke up today.

consider the reason tackiness is something of a problem to you. The only problem tackiness of LLA was to me is that bullets on loaded rounds pick up pocket lint if you carry them in a pocket. LLA is a good lube and using a leather belt cartridge box is a small sacrifice. Besides, I have a beauty that holds 20 rounds separated from a local holster maker. For recreational shooting keep the ammo boxed till you use it.

It is the Carnuba and conditioners from The Johnson's Wax that subtracts the tacky from LLA in the 45:45:10 tumble lube. If you come up with something better that is just as easy and cheaper, I'd say sell it by the bottle.

There is a lot of current DOE research on vegetable waxes. Carnuba is only one in a very large group of possible veggie waxes as many are excellent fuels. The one with the lowest cost process wins. Make America Great.

Thanks, I will try it. But I still have another issue. I had one partially used gallon of liquid Alox, but then I came across 2 more gallons at a price I couldn't pass up, I mean real cheap. Now I have more than I will ever use unless I can make it less tacky. So I will still try my experiment.

the homemade or commercial 45:45:10 tumble lube uses LLA in the formula and completely eliminates the tackiness of LLA. I have made it to formula and now get the commercial one from White's :

I have tried the talcum, but paraffin if added in small amounts should make it dry so it is not tacky. I have just recently thought of this, but have not experimented with mixtures as yet. Since it shouldn't take much paraffin, my thought is that burning would not be an issue.

I had poor results using paraffin in my home brew lube if that helps. Most say that paraffin burns too easily. I dust my tumbled bullets with motor mica. Others use talcum powder.
