Hello again,

Some of you may have noticed that I have been absent from the forum. I've been able to type a little once in a while, but not very often. Several months ago I had a freak accident out in the shop and seriously injured my left shoulder. It's doing much better now and I should be able to return to normal activities before long. I can then, add my two cents worth again. I have kept up with all the posts on the forum as I recuperate.

Hello Again,

I would like to thank those of you who were nice enough to send me the messages to cheer me up. I really did appreciate them.

I got more bad news yesterday from fresh xrays. I have two options: one I can have surgery and two, I can continue with steriod injections. As far as complete recovery, I can forget about it. I have improved to the point that I can function somewhat but with lots of pain and weakness as long as the pain meds are in me. My biggest problem is, even at 77 years of age I have always taken pride in my ability to stand on my two back legs and shoot like a man. I'm afraid this is going to be a thing of the past. I can take the lightest .22 rifle that I have and I can't support it with my left arm due to my left shoulder injury. That is something that is hard to take. As far as surgery, I probably couldn't get a surgeon to do the surgery since I have had two heart surgeries along with being 77 years old and I don't really want to be put under again with these things.

Thanks again,

Mashburn

David,

Take it from an Ex- volleyball player... shoulder injuries have a way of working themselves out over a little bit of time. Such a complex peace of anatomy that any disruption to a part effects all the rest. Its hard to realize when your in pain but time will work out alot of issues. You may not get back to 100% but I bet you'll be able to shoot in a few months one way or another.

Look back at athletes that you coached that recovered from injuries from good Physical Therapy? A good PT person knows how to compensate the uninjured areas to help the injured ones.

I've heard  fellas on here say you have to believe in your load to be confident when your shooting. Dr's. like to hype every injury up to get the patient riled into surgery or costly treatment. Believe in yourself and your road to recovery will be much better.

Best wishes,

John

I'll join in as another voice that has profitted from David's writing. I was knocked off my biycle at age 70 and had to have my shoulder repaired. I was given anti anxiety medication, an acetominephin, and fell asleep during the surgery. This modern stuff!  And John has it right on about PhysioTherapy. I had an old shoulder separation from rugby, and after the PT I could touch both hands over my head for the first time in 40 years.

Remember the cartoon of the frog and the heron "Never give up".
