A Thought

Could we have an informal class for the Traditional Benchrest Shooters where they shoot two CBA Score targets during a Military Match within the 15-minute time limit?

My reasoning is this; (1) Encourage participation at matches for shooters with a Benchrest rifle and not a Military rifle, and (2) allowing five minutes to use the sighter and one minute per score target follows conventional thought.

I am suggesting this for discussion.

I have friend who shoots Benchrest at Clark Rifles and this will give him another weekend to shoot at Paul Bunyan in Puyallup.

Bud, I support any option that will encourage people to shoot more matches. It is all just for fun remember. Just wish I could get over there to shoot also. Ric

At Pioneer Gun Club we shoot both military and benchrest at the same time, 15 minute relays, shoot what you like.

It's known to happen at DBR and Hawkeye that way too. Shooting 10 rounds in 15 minutes seems to balance out about the same because you need less sighters. And I don't screw up the military shooters so everyone is relatively happy.

We do this with the understanding that this is not a sanctioned match as it does not conform to the CBA Rules (See 6.1.2)which basically means scores/groups are not eligible for consideration for national records and technically should not be included in match results(?)  Perhaps Paul Pollard will weigh in.

Bud, thanks for the suggestion.  I would be happy to run such a match at Clark and, maybe, Lee would reciprocate for his military matches.  This would allow those that still work M-F to shoot military on their RDOs.  We sure need to find a way to boost attendance.

I really wish I had that problem of shooting a National record that couldn't be recorded.

Bud (and everyone else).

Having done match reports for a few years, it never dawned on me that several of those clubs shot both traditional benchrest and military matches at the same time. The following is an explanation from Tom Acheson which explains his procedure very well. You should have no problem shooting both disciplines at the same time, as long as the match director is willing to do it.

At our Regional (Minnetonka), doing a score target, the "red target guys" are instructed that they have 10-minutes for (5) shots and the "black target guys" are told they have 15-minutes for (10) shots. The range commands includes those statements along with..."everyone starts shooting together, the 10-minute cease fire will be given for the "red target guys" and the "black target guys" can continue shooting for an additional 5-minutes".

Sometimes a club will shoot two shots per bull on a "red score target" in 15-minutes. This eliminates the staggered shooting times.

Spokane does the same. Two shots on each score target for the bench rest guys. So far, no problems.

2 shots per bull eliminates the military guys sitting around for 2 ten minute rounds waiting on the modern 5 bull shooters to finish up.
