Not sure where I should put this so I'll start here.

I got in trade a Lee 174Gr 8mm Maurer mold & An 8 mm Kar mold. The 174 Maurer is a short little spire point & the Kar is a big, long flat nose. I assume 2 completely different chamberings ?? still not much of a computer guy, so I'm not very good with one. Educate me folks!!! Thanks, take care & be safe...

I think the KAR bullet was designed to fit seriously eroded throats, but don't quote me on that.

Glenn

It was designed to fit the M48 Mausers available at the time for hunting purposes. Most all of them had worn throats. It also fit in almost every other worn throated 8x57.

Thanks 2.1, I was sure I had heard or read somewhere about the eroded throats & KAR bullet.

Thanks for your response Glenn. I did the 8mm+squeeze search & it just showed this post ?

I was just curious if the Kar was a different rifle, chamber etc,etc than the 8mm Mauser I believe it is

Giveier ? Something like that??????

Larry, I have those 2 moulds as well.  I got them with a M24/47 I picked up a little while ago.  The 24/47 has a like new barrel, so the KAR seated real deep!  I ran it nose first into a .311" lubrisizer die and sized a few of the bands down so I could seat it out farther.  (See https://forum.castbulletassoc.org/search/?term=8mm+squeeze)  It only fed from one side of the magazine, but I did not try the feeding while seated deep.  The Lee bullet feeds and shoots great as-is.

Both are 8x57 . The Karabiner mold was a custom Lee run, then by Midsouth for the M48 Mauser rifles for hunting.
