You guys have sold me on the 30+ calibers for cast bullet hunting. I have an Eddystone Model 1917 in nice shape....with the notable exception of a very weak bore that won't shoot well. Would it be possible to have it rebored to 375 ? What would it entail--I'd like to keep it as “military” as possible but, like I said, it doesn't shoot at all well as it is. Anybody know who would be a good bet to do it (PM me if you do). I've seen two Lyman flat nose bullets at 248 and 264 grains which should be great for whitetails. Thanks guys

If you mean the 375 Win. I don't think you could ever get the rim to feed. Why don't you try the 35 Whelen or make it the 375 Whelen if you realy want the 375 caliber.

Here's the best advice you'll get.Leave the Enfield alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1Don't modify it or have it re-bored or anything! Nothing!Either put it away and leave it alone, or sell/trade it and buy a NEW modern rifle, Savage, Remington, .... in 308 or 2nd choice 30-06.Get a decent = <$100 scope adjustable for parallax.Shoot cast bullets, accurately.

After a little more thought, it looks like the 35 or 375 Whelen is the way I will probably go. Two more questions: 1. If I go with the 35, what twist should I look at for 225-250 grainers? If I go with the 375, what twist for slugs in the 260 grain bracket? 2. I've been told that headspace is no problem in the 375 as long as I neck size only. Anybody tell me if that's true or should I look at the Ackley Improved?

14” twist on both the 35 Whelen and the 375 Whelen. No need for faster, especially with cast bullets. Best accuracy with cast bullets across the velocity spectrum of each cartridge with the 14” twist also.

I have a Rem 700 in 35 Whelen. 1:16 twist that WILL NOT stabilize cast over 250. Therefore go with 1:14 or perhaps 1:12 if you like the long/heavy bullets. My choice is with the 1:12 because I want(ed) to shoot the 280gr and up.
358 Winchester is better with 250 and lighter. (Might be an option - as it would give you plenty of magazine space for long-seated bullets.) That IS to say consider seating long (cut throat accordingly) to retain ability to seat ONLY down to the base of the neck. The 200gr RCBS 35-200 with gas check won't need to be seated long, and is a widely accepted standard GOOD bullet.

There are still a few 'new' barrels out there in .30-06 for 1917's. Might also be an option as you can still do 200-220gr cast.

Original barrel is on the gun now---a 1918. I really hate to change it and thought a rebore job would at least let the gun look a little more original.

I just tried to get in touch with Jesse at JES Reboring but only get an error message. Information lists no number for him or JES.....anybody know whats going on there? If he has gone out of it can someone refer another good outfit?
